Mussini Gone

Per Sportando
Federico Mussini to Reggio Emilia is a done deal.
He is leaving St. John’s after two seasons

Honestly, who cares. Oh well. This won't have much of an effect on us.

You're in the wrong thread. The election one is the place to be a dick.

I'm surprised given that he is back on campus but I guess he came back just for finals. At least he will likely be leaving on good standing and not hurting the APR (the same for Williams). Best of luck to him.

I respectfully disagree. I am told by one very closely related to the St.John's program that Mussini brought a sense of maturity and focus to the practices which rubbed off on other players. Yeah, Mussini would not have started but maturity and focus is something that cannot be easily replaced.

And being the fourth guard in a three-guard offense isn't a meaningless role.

Once again I disagree with the three guard offense. Have to start Owens, Clark, Ahmed, Ponds and Lovell. Simon comes off the bench as the sixth man. Have to believe against a zone Mussini would have been first sub in. This is not saying Mullin won't use a three guard offense against a smaller team.

Sad to see him go. He stayed with his SJU commitment when he could've left, and was willing to play point guard when we didn't have one.

Is he a Big East caliber player? Probably not, but he played his ass off and that's all you can ask for.

Salute to the young OG. Peace!

with Moose we know what we have. An above avg shooter , good ball handler but below avg defender. He was also a great teammate. If Trimble is eligible and comes here I hope he can at least fill Mussini's void or else we are right back where we cam from- An injury, transfer, or ineligible player away from being very very thin. Every time we take a step forward, we take a step back. How can anyone not want a good role player who can actually shoot coming off the bench?

I really enjoyed watching Mussini play and I am happy for him.

My only issue is why wait so long to announce you are leaving which causes an issue for your team.

Darn......I am disappointed. There is a lot to like about Federico and I am sure he will be missed. Say what you want, from a teammate and work-ethic standpoint, Federico was aces.

Now I have to explain to my son that his main man is no longer on the team.

I am sad to hear he is leaving St. John's. He played to his capabilities, shot well. He worked hard, often out of position, but he did it without complaining. He was also a good student, an overall asset to have on the team. I will miss him.
Buona fortuna in futuro!

Yawke remains as the last player from the 2015 season that played his first year. That speaks leaps and bounds to the rosters improvement into a competitive BE squad.

You will be missed Federico. Thank you, for taking a chance on us and giving two years as a solid ambassador for the program.

Buona fortuna!

Disappointed, yes, surprised, no. Thanks for your efforts and good luck in the future.

I disagree with the comments that he was not a BE caliber player. He was not a 30+ minute BE player. Would still be a great role player.

Federico was a great asset to our program for 2 seasons
He played out of position in Year 1 without complaint
He played less minutes in Year 2 without complaint
He gave it his best on the floor at all times and was a great teammate
Thanks for your contributions to St John's basketball, Federico
Sorry to see you go but best of luck in your professional career!!

Federico was a decent player, hard worker, always prepared. He was not our Archedeacano (sp) as I had hoped; but he filled his role.

Good Luck in the future and thanks for your time as a Johnny.

We can't start owens, he's our only capable big man. The only way I could see Owens starting is if Yakwe improves 3x of what he was last year. You have to believe Mullin knows this.

I see Lovett, Ponds, Clark (Defensive demon, something that we really need.), Ahmed, and Clark as our starting 5.

I'll miss him, too. He had offers from Gonzaga, Davidson and others, but he chose us and did his best. Yeah, he was a defensive liability, but he wasn't alone, including the coaches.

No, you wouldn't want to start your only capable big man. Short sighted of Mullin not to recruit an incapable big man to be the starter.
