Mullin Press Conference

Since I grew up watching Mullin it was a big deal to me and obviously to other fans, but I am surprised at how much play this has gotten. Pleasantly surprised but still surprised.

At the end of the day he's a dream teamer and a HOFer. That goes a long way especially the first week.

It will go even further when it comes to recruiting kids and refining their skill set. He's got a great eye for basketball and I can't help but think we are going to see a bit different type of SJU team in the future. Technical on offense, good shooters. Everything we haven't been for a long, long time.

Read between the lines, perhaps;

@NYPost_Brazille: #sjubb higher-up on program's future, assistant coaches: "We’ll make the financial commitment we need to make to assure our success."

I totally forgot that Drexler coached Houston. Could be wrong but don't remember it being as big a deal?
BTW Drexler looks medicated or stoned in those Shaq ,Laettner, Dr J commercials

Just started, Tarik Turner introducing everyone. Very nice turnout, great anecdote from Turner about 80 year old man on train crying when he heard the news.

Turner goes " This morning on a subway ride to this event I witnessed grandson telling his pops that Mullin is the new coach at SJU. Grandfather started crying when he heard the news.

Come on Tarik. I like you but that this one is way overboard.

Why is that an over the top reaction. I cried when I heard they extended Norm.

I could not watch it ("work" is a 4 letter word) but it is on my DVR for when I get home tonight.

Questions for you that were there or watched it:

1) How many in attendance? Good turn out?
2) Any mention of Lavin's staff? Cleaning house?

Thanks guys.

1) I only saw from ESPN3, and I'm sure someone in attendance could give a better accounting, but it looked to be about 1,500 people total in CA.

2) Only mention of staff was Chris introducing Matt A. as his first hire and making a funny joke about his height.

Just got home.

Without a doubt definitely worth the 4 hour plus round trip car ride !!

Press conference could not have been any better than it was, IMO.

Excellent turnout. Exceeded my expectations, at least.

Reps from: N.Y. Daily News (Roger Rubin), N.Y. Post, Bergen Record, Newsday, CBS (Otis Livingston), NBC (Bruce Beck) ABC, NY1, Channel 11, Channel 5 (Russ Salzburg), ESPN New York (Ian O'Connor), Adam Zagoria, among others.

Everyone hit the right note.

Lots of former players at CA:

Carmine Calzonetti, Felipe Lopez, Gordon Thomas, George Johnson, Ty Grant, Walter "The Truth" Berry, Billy Schaeffer, Franki Alagia, Oscar Holt, among others.

Heard Ron Rowan was there but I didn't see him.

Got to believe CA will be sold out for every game next season.

There hasn't been this much positive energy in quite awhile.

Great day for St. John's !

All the best to Chris !!

Go Johnnies !!!

I'm loading some videos onto youtube and will post them here

On the floor, maybe 300-400 people. One side of bleachers nicely filled. Other side sparse. Upper seats, empty. Lots of players hanging out on the 164th Street side behind the basket.

Overboard and insulting: I'm nowhere near 80.

Just met my daughter for the train ride home. As I suspected, I would get more on the Press Conference on this site (and I did have ESPN3 on my iPad) than from her despite her attendance.

I don't now if this was posted but she said several of the present players were there like Obekpa and ADR?

I saw Obekpa, Alibegovich, and Christian Jones. There may have been others as well, but those were the three I saw.
