Minnesota played Franklin Pierce tonight. So far it is 48-29 MINNY in the first half.

Not saying that means we will lose, but isn't a great sign

It doesn't look good on the face of it. One thing I've learned over the years though, is that using margin of victory/defeat against a common opponent is the worst predictor of a matchup that there possibly is, even if it turns out to be right.

I agree, just trying to get some kind of frame of reference. I am a firm believer the game will be very close. I think we step up. I just want a shot at Gonzaga, even though I feel we'd lose that.

I think Georgia is our best matchup in that tournament.

I am going to be there Friday with five family members. I hope we can hang with Gonzaga but I don't see how.

I agree with you, don't see it, but I want to see it anyway to see how we do against top 10 competition.

So Minnesota won by 52 and Gonzaga destroyed St Joe's last night. Unless we improve by light years from what I've seen so far we are in trouble next week.

Gonzaga is a different animal, but I'm not too worried about Minnesota. They pressed Franklin Pierce and it resulted in 24 turnovers. D-1 teams can really make it ugly if they are having a good night pressing the D-2 teams...it brings out the difference in athletic abilitiy. They won't be able to press our three to four guard lineups like that.

The size worries me, but a couple of the bigs were really laboring up and downt the court. This will likely be a game Amar can pay 5-10 minutes without hurting us.

Did you catch the game tonight Marillac? Can they shoot the 3 well? That's probably my main concern right now. If we can hold them from hitting a ton of 3s and hold our own on the boards somewhat, I say we come out with a close win at MSG.

Agree it means nothing.You can not even go by the stats from each game

This game is the perfect first test for us. Good but not great team who is going to present some matchup issues, which is something we will be dealing with all season.

We have matchup issues of our own to present - as we should all season - so it's going to mostly come down to which team can dictate pace and impose the matchup problems that benefit them. This is also probably what our season will largely come down to.

On our home court need to take care of business. Then we can sit back for two days and get ready for a house-money game v. Gonzaga with no expectations.

I wonder how many fans will show up to this one. I was able to buy floor seats the other day so I'm not expecting a big St John's crowd.

Games like this could make the difference between the NCAA or NIT so it'll be disappointing if we have no home court advantage as I expect.

Tonight;

@GophersNow: Final MBB score: #Gophers 69, #UMBC 51. Walker 15 pts. Hollins 12. Morris 9 pts and 9 rebs. Mathieu 8 pts, 5 assists, 4 stls

I'd show up If these were part of season ticket package
Or admin was proactive and creative to add it into the package. But alas they can't even figure out how to seat the few fans we do have.

Weak excuse, if you are a fan you show up. If not then don;t complain.
I asked the school for tickets they provided them to me and I paid for them. Real tough stuff there.

Congrats. I budget X amount a year. This is over my budget. Have a great time

I bought 2 tix on stubhub for $55. Everything I saw was in the 100s too. I think that our (not specifically you) has the most excuses in the world to not show up, or not fully support the team they "love." It's insane and honestly embarrassing

You are entitled to that opinion. But as you know season ticket holders already shell out 600 plus. In the grand scheme of things another 50 or 100 bucks probably isn't much. But when you start considering two NIT games, plus what another 2 at Barclays? Guess I feel stupid for getting season tickets. Should have probably just picked and chose my spots on what games to go to.

St. John's can't worry about what Minny does. They need to dictate the pace especially if
they go small. Harrison has to go off on Hollins make him work hard on D. That will counteract his scoring. Senior guard has to step up now. These are important games, more so than the Big East.
