Mikey Dixon Transferring

It would be greatly appreciated.
Should have everyone back sans Clark, ponds, heron.

Seniors: Simon
Juniors : wright
LJ
Keita
Trimble
Soph: Williams
Roberts
Earlington
Mack
Steere
Caharer
Manuel
1 'ship' left & praying the name filling it begins with 'Precious'.
I would bet pretty heavily even with a good year there will be more roster turnover then just what you see above.
Agree, there's probably 1 - 2 more. Hoping Simon stays.

Great question, Al.
Although it seems too early for even Heron to know his options, just maybe, that's the 'inside' spin.
Don’t believe it
See I don't understand this. Financial and family considerations aside it would seem that another year as the best player on a decent team would only help him.

I hope Heron stays for his senior. I think he could develop into a good NBA'er.

Good luck Mikey
I enjoyed watching you play during your short stint as a Johnnie
I hope that you aren't collecting Social Security by the time you use up your eligibility

Me thinks Heron believes he will be a "good NBA'er" after this season

Based on what he showed he can be a star in the NEC if he desires, but he had that already and was unhappy. It will be interesting to see where he ends up and I'm sure we will know very soon.

I could never figure out how he could play at the same time as Ponds and not have the defense fall to pieces. For me that goes back to watching him in street clothes last year. Based on the last two games Mullin came to the same conclusion and the answer surely is not to play Ponds less to accomodate Dixon.

Good luck to him, he can succeed in the right spot.

Kinda sucks to be honest, he’s a rotational player, but in the games I saw his defense was pretty lackadaisical and if he thinks he was gonna get handed minutes just...because, then I’m happy he’s gone.

I guess by leaving now he misses the conference season, next fall's OOC schedule wherever he goes, and then is eligible next January since the semester didn't begin?

I liked the depth that we were developing off the bench but this is definitely part of the college game today with more frequency. I think he had some value here that would have helped us this season.

Also, what's done is done but he used up a scholarship all last year that could have been used on another player for a team that barely had seven guys. I'm all for transfers being part of the mix but it would seem that sit-outs need to be guys who clearly have a role when eligible.

Not sure Carreher isn't the same problem, but hopefully my suspicions are incorrect and he can make an impact.

Would transferring at mid-season have made more sense? It probably doesn't since he will time out with 5 to play 4.
I think the bigger issue was Heron coming last May. He obviously did not anticipate when transferred in 2017. I think Mikey thought at worst he would be the 3rd guard behind Ponds and Simon after sitting out a year and then Heron comes and gobbles up a lot of minutes. Never really found his niche. Obviously didn't transfer so he could sit.

Hopefully he can still enroll somewhere for 2nd semester.

And assuming he can, Steere maybe able to go on scholarship after all!!! LOL!
Mikey had a whole year of practicing with the team before this season but obviously was the same player he was at Quinnipiac which would put him on the bench as a sub. Remember that in 2017 we were in pretty bad shape and you can never have too many guards if they accept their role. It became obvious to him that Trimble and Williams were going to get more of his minutes during conference play. We have players who can handle the ball in Ponds, Simon and Heron. Williams and Trimble are guards so going 5 deep in the 1 and 2 positions is fine. We needed depth up front with Keita and Roberts. Those last two bigs are going to be bigger factors than anything Dixon was bringing to the table.

Defensively Dixon just couldn’t be on the court at the same time as Ponds. Dixon will be missed a bit if Ponds gets hurt.

He IS transferring at mid season. He will be at another school for 2nd semester practicing with them. He also will be eligible to play as soon as finals end at his next school next December. I'm not sure why this is so confusing. Even schools on quarter systems, like UCal's don't start classes until next Monday so he can go wherever he wants. And most schools don't start classes until January 22. Plenty of time for him to find a destination if he doesn't have one already. You're not required to transfer the day after finals for all these rules to kick in, just need to be at your next school by 2nd Semester or Quarter.

Good luck to the kid he wasn't a bad player. Hate to see a kid go but in this case it means we are increasing the talent level and some kids dont want to compete. Mullin and co have really started to hit their stride when it comes to recruiting. Also not doing too bad on the sideline either. No complaints about the program right now which is great. Mullin might actually end up being a pretty good coach.

Thanks Dan
And Chris Mullin has been doing it
“ My Way” or rather “his way” preaching patience and trust which some of we posters lacked.
Good for him, for us, for our players!
It’s a very good year...

Has anyone seen Carreher play? What's his game like and how does it fit into Mullins system?
Another reason why this loss sucks is because you lose the only other player who can put the pull on the floor as a Point Guard.
Simon does as good a job as Dixon ever did in that regard.

We're in deep shit if Ponds gets hurt

Realistically where could M Heron go and why - with a likely 2019-20 prominent role - would he go anywhere than right here with this refreshing Red Storm team.
