Mikey Dixon Transferring

Another reason why this loss sucks is because you lose the only other player who can put the pull on the floor as a Point Guard.
We've got six guys that can get to the basket in the half court: Ponds, Heron, LJ, Williams, Simon, and Clark. I'd definitely prefer a tough NYC backup PG like Boothe behind Ponds for sure, but Dixon wasn't that kind of player.

I think Williams can get to the hoop every bit as well as Dixon and he can play much better D. Dixon's shot could have been really important, though. 43% and it looked every bit as good as the %.
Also no one knows how eli wright has looked in practices. Maybe he sees that and GW jr and saw writing on the wall.
I hope that is the case, like when Malik was getting whipped by Simon and knew he had to go.

I'd be shocked if Wright wasn't just teeing off on him given the physical disparity and experience levels.

Ranked 65 by ESPN that year.

Mikey was a good three point shooter. Nothing else stood out. Trimble can shoot once in the flow but plays hard defense.
I think Mullin settled on his 8 man rotation and Dixon was not going to be part of it. Loss of depth only if we are in dire straight but going into the rest of the season Williams and Roberts may be more important cogs in the wheel of development.

How Kevin Williams was not starting ahead of Bobby Kelly EVERY GAME remains a mystery that only Coach C. can ever explain. It was, INSANE.
I have posted this before but when I was a kid I was a ball boy for a USBL team. Kevin Williams was the best player in a league with a bunch of guys that played in the pros. Hot Rod Williams was on Williams team. However Williams was an angry dude and not really a point guard.
But even with all that yes I agree and my 10year old self STRONGLY agreed with you.
Williams starting over Kelly is one of the great mysteries of all-time. The second greatest mystery is how did Kelly even make the roster!!!! From what I heard he was a nice kid, well liked and did put in effort, just limited talent. Loved how hard he worked just to get the ball past half-court.

If I recall correctly Looie had some connection to Kelly's father which true or not people accepted because there had to some explanation for the son getting so many minutes.

Excuse my low IQ on the rules but does this mean that Dixon can no longer practice or play in any games for the rest of the season? If so why would he make this public now and not play out the rest of the season and keep his skills polished up? I wonder if there was an argument with the staff that made him decide to go public with this now.

He's gone.

I think the bigger issue was Heron coming last May. He obviously did not anticipate when transferred in 2017. I think Mikey thought at worst he would be the 3rd guard behind Ponds and Simon after sitting out a year and then Heron comes and gobbles up a lot of minutes. Never really found his niche. Obviously didn't transfer so he could sit.

Hopefully he can still enroll somewhere for 2nd semester.

And assuming he can, Steere maybe able to go on scholarship after all!!! LOL!

As a Junior Kelly somehow actually even averaged more mins a game than Billy Goodwin. 33.1 to 33 lol
In those 33 mins he averaged 4 ppg and 4.6 assists. Seems like you would be able to get better stats than that in 33 mins by accident.
By comparison Williams was getting 14 mins per game and averaged 6.7.
Senior year was more of even split with Williams
Imagine poor Louie if there were a fan forum back then

Think we’d be naive to think Matt won’t at least keep his eyes open.

Is it possible someone can put together the scholarship situation as it stands this year with Dixon leaving and next year with Clark and Ponds gone? It would be greatly appreciated.

1 'ship' left & praying the name filling it begins with 'Precious'.

Great question, Al.
Although it seems too early for even Heron to know his options, just maybe, that's the 'inside' spin.
Don’t believe it

I would bet pretty heavily even with a good year there will be more roster turnover then just what you see above.

If there was a belief Heron was staying other guards would be looking for the back door as well...
