Midnight Madness Countdown

Oct. 10, 2016
QUEENS, N.Y. – With the start of the St. John’s basketball season rapidly approaching, the Johnnies will celebrate their annual Red Strom Tip-Off on Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. with a performance from hip hop artist Desiigner set to highlight the action at Carnesecca Arena.

The Brooklyn born Desiigner, a GOOD Music recording artist known for his hit single “Panda,” will serve as the evening’s main feature, but Red Storm fans will also be able to catch a first glimpse of the 2016-17 St. John’s men’s and women’s basketball squads. In addition, those in attendance will have the opportunity to win a number of prizes and receive giveaways courtesy of St. John’s and our corporate partners, while select lucky fans will have the chance to win an iPad, Qdoba catering for 20 or sink a half-court shot for a 2017 Chevy Camaro.

The Carnesecca Arena Ticket Office will open at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, for St. John’s students. The Ticket Office welcomes season ticket holders, Red White members, alumni and the general public to pick up tickets beginning at 4 p.m.

Red Storm Tip-Off tickets are free of charge and the first 1,000 students to sit in the lower bowl of sections 2-6 will receive a t-shirt courtesy of RedZone. The first 2,000 fans will receive a free light up wristband courtesy of Coca-Cola. All seating areas are general admission on a first come, first served basis.

Fans will be formally introduced to the St. John’s men’s and women’s basketball squads for the first time at tip-off, as the teams will compete in a number of on-court exhibitions.

Season tickets are available now and start at just $75 for women's basketball and $375 for men's basketball. For more information, call 718-990-6502, visit RedStormTix.com or stop by the Carnesecca Arena Ticket Office. St. John's season ticket members can reserve the best seats available at both home venues and also enjoy significant savings on a per game basis. Other benefits include priority on purchasing additional tickets to premium and postseason games before the general public, exclusive member events and a season ticket member gift. Was told 2017 commit Zach Brown won't be there Friday because of his HS obligations and long distance of trip. #sjubb

Impressive list! You obviously have to get commitments, but give Matt, staff credit for raising bar here. It would be nice to crack NJ after a long drought.

Is there any way to stream the event?

Getting someone to Skype/Facetime you while they aim their phone at the court might be as close as you can get to having St. John's stream it.

You must be joking. We're talking about St John's here.

I believe that the last two were streamed through Redstormsports.com and the STJ sports department but there doesn't seem to be any indication that this is happening this year.

Flagboy was awesome what 10 years back. Are we using flag man now?

There are a few times when somebody runs around the court but it's a pale comparison to the "real flagboy" :)

They have never been able to recruit a suitable replacement since the dinning hall started focusing on healthier food. Flag Boy had a 48 inch waist and the strength of an ox to carry our banner!

You are correct but we have a fractured athletic department now so I am paying one of the Chinese students to video the event for historical purposes. I will be selling the video in the parking lot at the next men's soccer game against Butler for $5 each or 5 for $20.

"As part of the Red Storm Tip-Off event on Friday at Carnesecca Arena, St. John’s will host a who’s who of top local recruits"

Clearly Chris and Matt never got the memo that's been circulating around here for years which emphatically states that there is no longer any local talent. Amazing how they were able to rustle up 24 top tier kids for MM when the last staff..........oh, never mind.
