Mets 2024 Season

Why not go McNeil for Iglesias and then Winker? That was the game.
I said that to a co-worker the second I saw Iglesias coming up to hit (I don’t have audio at work). Mendoza coached on vibes and not smarts the past two games. The writing was on the wall when the series was still tied. That, and give the Dodgers credit, their approach at the plate is magnificent. They have real discipline and work those counts. Our pitchers work on misdirection and timing. The Dodgers seemingly only swing at strikes.

Too late to get the Padres as our opponents?

Lots of blame to go around.
Mets pitchers have walked the park. They’ve given up 29 runs in 4 games.

Mets have not hit in the clutch. How many times have they left the bases loaded? How many RISP were left stranded? We can’t buy a sac fly.

Their defense has been substandard overall.

Hard to pin it on the manager when everything’s been lousy (including the manager).

If only Ottavino had been kept on the roster…

We are just overmatched. With relatively the same payroll next year we can add Soto and Burnes, retain, Alonso and Manaea, and add a high leverage lefty.

Find value veterans and backfill will all the young talent like Acuna, Gilbert, Mauricio, Baty, Sproat/Tidwell/Vasil/Hamel.

Hard to admit because we’ve had such a nice run. The better team is winning. Their offense is keeping the pressure on and the Mets are not getting big hits. I do hope they we can somehow win today. You never know right?

Win tonight and get to their bullpen game 6.
At the very least, a win at home would be special.

Or just get destroyed so Cohen knows he has to go all in😁

Once Alonso's home run in Milwaukee had some distance, it remains clear to me we can't depend on him to be that third big bat at the top of the order. Soto, obviously, is #1 on that list, but I also wouldn't mind having an all-in type trade for Vlad Guerrero Jr, Kyle Tucker, or a smaller-ish trade for a Luis Robert.

Oh, I love the Vlad Jr. thought. We might have the pieces to work that out too since he’s only got a year left. We can’t expect to beat a team that has a lineup of Betts, Ohtani, Freeman, Muncy, and Hernandez with two studs. We need Soto.

My hope:

Lindor
Vientos
Soto
Alonso
Nimmo
Marte (owed 20 mill in 2025 🤮)
McNeil (owed 15 mill in 2025 🤮)
Alvarez
Taylor/Acuna/Gilbert

We’ve got a ton of value from pre-arbitration guys like Vientos/Butto/Alvarez (expect him to really bounce back)/Baty/Gilbert/Acuna plus Senga and Peterson. Blackburn and Megill probably as well. Toss in Vasil (27 AAA starts), Hamel (43 AAA starts), Jarvis (17 AAA starts), Tidwell (17 AAA starts) and Sproat (7 AAA starts).

Yeah. Soto, we have to offer more money than any team by far. It's worth the money.

Pete, I'd only do it if its less than six years and no more than $25 mill. But I'd also be perfectly fine with going after an under-the-radar acquisition like Yandy Diaz, Ryan Mountcastle, or a short term deal for Christian Walker.

You also forgot Jett Williams. He can definitely be a factor in CF or in the infield. I like the idea of not going out and getting a guy to fill in 2B or CF. Let the young guys battle for it.

The Vladdy thing grows on me really quick. If the Blue Jays decide to blow it up, and they know they aren't going to re-sign Bichette/Vladdy, why not go get both? We can probably also save them money with tacking on Green and Bassitt.

The best thing about this is, I actually really trust that the FO will do the unsexy moves that are on no one's radar that end up paying dividends later.

With all of our prior regimes in my lifetime -- literally since Steve Phillips, Duqette, Alderson, Eppler, etc. --, we've had to pray for the obvious move (e.g. signing Marte) since if it wasn't that, we were just cheapening out or making an uneducated decision. Now? I'm totally comfortable with whatever Stearns does.

Also, this happened this week. Pretty good pedigree to have our VP of Scouting from Astros and Head Scout from Orioles.

I would do 8/210 for Alonso. The insurance he provides to the top 3 is massive. Power is the last thing to go too. And college guys typically have longer careers due to the shorter seasons they play for 3 years (see Justin Turner).

I LOVE Jett, but the missed season will set him back. If he played the whole year I think he would have broke camp with the Mets in 2025. Still possible…but more likely a late call up.

Why not DH Nimmo and Play Winker in the OF since Nimmo cant move. Also like others I have been calling for McNeil but I think I would have gone to Acuna to see if the kid provided a spark. I was not impressed with the couple of ABs McNeil got and Acuna is the future.
