Time to put the temporary distraction behind us and go back to program-building.

Or in the case of Redmen Dot Com, go back to fighting amongst ourselves.  With one exception, this thread is disturbingly "kumbaya" so far.  I hardly recognize the place.  /media/kunena/emoticons/silly.png

Per Roger Rubin
St. John's coach Mike Anderson snuffs the silly rumor he would go to Tulsa. Also notable: none of the Red Storm players have their names in the transfer portal (at least not yet).

Thanks for the message Coach. Very good news in the short term and hopefully in the long term as well. This off season obviously huge. I'm rooting for the Johnnies as always and also rooting for the staff to get it done.
Keep the core, get a difference maker to replace Champ and a wing/guard that can really shoot it (admittedly much easier said than done) and I like our chances to dance.

Time to complete our brackets and watch some exciting hoops, along with the transfer portal lol.

That's because I haven't voice my thoughts yet /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

This is good news. Let’s retain the players we have and bring in a couple of impact transfers and we’ll be ok.

But no transfer shooters Gene :)

I wonder when Cragg will be making the extension announcement? Couldn't resist /media/kunena/emoticons/cheerful.png

Extension ,nah, knowing this school they probably gave him a life time contract./media/kunena/emoticons/tongue.png

He has a better chance of retaining our better players which is something to build around. Could make this sentiment not age well if Posh leaves or there's another mass or semi-mass exodus in the coming weeks. Long term this is TBD.

Anderson needs to attack this transfer portal as if his year 4 is the make or break year for him, which it should be. It shouldn't be one of those seasons where finishing 6th and making the NIT is the goal because we are projected to finish 9th in the preseason polls. Anderson was brought in to at least elevate us to where SHU and Providence have been which is consistently in the top half of the standings and in the tournament. Down years happen for everybody in this conference not named Villanova and those are acceptable if there are far more up years. Time to have an up year.

I wonder what would have happened on this board if we had gotten knocked out of the tournament by a point by Rider (#243 on the net rankings) instead of by Villanova (#7 on the net rankings). I guess Pitino is covered in Teflon to some but I think rose colored glasses is the wrong way to view such a sketchy individual.

Mixed results as far as wins and losses aside, I am thrilled that Coach Anderson will continue to lead our program and I find his positive energy and high level of integrity to be totally refreshing. May next season be a wildly successful one for us!

I'm thrilled Coach Anderson is back.

But let's be honest -- whether Rick Pitino, coaching a mid-major, gets knocked out of a conference tournament by a terrible mid-major, has absolutely no impact on objectively viewing his coaching resume.  The guy, despite his warts and flaws, is an absolute all-time college basketball coach.

Thank goodness. I really would hate to see him go. Now hopefully he brings back at least 6 players from last year team ( most notably Posh) and let’s improve.

I have a morbid curiosity now to see (a) what they're writing on the Tulsa boards, (b) who they hire, and (c) whether we will ever schedule an OOC game against them now?

Oh, and for the record, I am very happy CMA is back.  Let's just get it done next year, somehow without Champ.

Starters/Backups next year:
PG - Posh/King
SG - Pinzon/Wusu
SF - Storr
PF - Wheeler/Stanley
 C - Soriano/Nywie

Thats a nice 9 man rotation.  Not listing Tarore as Id have to see what he brings to the table next year.

Unfortunately, some will not be here next season. Nature of the beast.

Must be shooters, at least 40% from 3. LOL!!

This Is good News for the Team and School as it ends the speculation regarding Tulsa .  It also doesn’t adversely impact the monies spent on CMA ‘s salary and buy out .  It was nearly certain St John’s wanted to retain Mike . The only doubt being , did he want the Tulsa job . It’s been answered .    Next year ?  I hope the Goals established include a winning BE Record and a definite NCAA bid . Anything less in year 4 isn’t acceptable .   Next years Team has spots to fill . Namely a Scoring replacement for Chanp . A true back up PG , not Wusu or Pinzon .  And , at least 2 or more High level transfers . Both of whom must have Career Free Shooting percentages in the 70-75 range , as a minimum .  We may need more , if Wheeler doesn’t return .
It’s not easy to crack the top tier of the BE year in, year out . The League has 2 Elite Coaches in Wright and McDermott.  3 very good Coaches in Willard , Cooley and Smart.   So , this will be CMA’s challenge .                                       Posh will be the key to the Team . He doesn’t need to be a 3 point shooter but , could improve his 10-12 foot range . Thus would allow him to be able to score , without always having to drive into the Traffic underneath .,  where  he’s gets clobbered , often with no foul being called . Ponds never got those calls either . Gillespie ? Always .            Let’s hope next year at this time , we are looking forward to a 5 seed matchup or better .

It's waaay too early in the thread.  One of the usual suspects has already chimed in.  I'm sure there will be more to follow./media/kunena/emoticons/dizzy.png

Nice 9 man rotation? Really? Who among your shooting guards can shoot? Do you really believe relying on two freshman at key positions is part of  a “good 9 man rotation”. The only area, which hasn’t been the case in the past, that I feel good about is the 5 spot. I find this roster alarmingly thin, and that’s if no one transfers.

I know a lot of you put a ton of stock in this message board and the things that are said on it concerning recruits and current players (and, sometimes, their parents). And, obviously, it’s a great message board in an internet oasis that is barren for most of us that follow this team.

Saying that, most young people don’t even know what a message board is. I, myself, enjoy forums and message boards because they are a great way to converse with people who (mostly) support the same team or hobby I do.

These kids read Twitter and Instagram and get a lot their information and conversation from Snapchat and TikTok. Kids (and their parents) don’t care about what a bunch of 30 to 70 year old men have to say, they care and are more affected by their social media accounts.

And, that’s a way bigger problem than what a bunch of crotchety old coots (myself included) have to say. Why? Because our fan base appears to be wallowing in a toilet on SM. I don’t know how to fix that but that should be most concerning when it comes to getting the kind of recruits everyone wants.

How to fix that toxicity, I don’t know, I don’t do social media, but whatever I happen to see on Twitter sucks, and reading the response in Anderson’s Twitter post inspired this post. And, it’s a problem. It’s gotta be disheartening to read if you’re even remotely interested in this program. I can’t even tell if most of these people are actual fans or trolls.

I don’t know how to fix it but it has to be nipped in the bud somehow.

I'm just glad this has seemingly been put to rest, so that the staff can get back to the task at hand; building a tourney team for next season.
