Matt A

Some kids are just not cut out for college and can't wait to leave and earn some $$.

Agreed.

You also have to be tough and disciplined to succeed. Marcus appears mature and tough but there have been the games where he hasn't started which could have been minor discipline problems. I don't know if Harrison would be as successful if he went to Turkey when he was suspended.

Marcus worked so hard to get eligible. By all accounts he enjoys being here. No doubt be dreams of playing in the NBA not Turkey. Not sure why he would give up on that dream.

We will not be a better team next year without Lovett. Any suggestion to the contrary is just silly.

Assuming that Mr. Simon is as advertised then Mr. Lovett may be a valuable player coming off of the bench next season.

Who is advertising Simon as being a pg let alone worthy of Lovett sitting on the bench next year? As somebody posted earlier, Lovett and Ponds presently have nobody to pass the ball to. I think we would all find that Lovett would be a much better floor general if he had a few decent players surrounding him instead of Yakwe and Alibegovic. We should all thank our lucky stars that we had Ponds and Lovett this year because without them, there is no chance we would have won seven Big East games .

Pretty much everyone on this board except you knows that Simon is a point. guard

Did I say I saw him play? All I know is that he is PG, and comes with a rep as a very good one, and is tall. . For someone who claims to know a lot of stuff and makes a lot of proclamation, you sure as hell are ill-informed.

Why do people think Lovett is leaving. He is barely 6 foot with not particularly good range. He doesn't really distribute that well. He is below average defender. Maybe playing with better talent will change that. Plus the NBA draft is loaded. Europe I would think or DLeague. I assume most people are going with the fact that he moved around a lot in HS and isn't the academic type. I mean he is blazing fast & strong maybe with more space in the NBA suits his skills more. I hope he stays I guess we will find out shortly.

Sentence 2, 3, and 4 doesn't really jive to well with your last sentence.

I agree. I think some posters are trying to soften the potential blow of him leaving by minimizing his impact. It's the old "addition by subtraction' adage. I for one think Lovett has been a phenomenal freshman on an otherwise underwhelming team. Does he have a lot to improve on? Absolutely. Thank goodness he does so we can at least entertain the possibility of him coming back.

In no way am I minimizing his impact. Posters have hinted on here they think he is leaving. I was pointing out from a basketball standpoint why would he leave. I did point out the underwhelming lack of talent. Obviously $$ and not wanting to be in school is a different story. He's all freshmen team for a reason. Hope he stays all four years

I don't claim to know a lot of stuff. I'm big fan, but not plugged in or connected. Like many,I come here for info and to express my opinions. You re entitled to yours. I don't think it's a bold prediction to pencil Lovett in as the starter next year should he choose to return.

I saw Simon play at Arizona. I'm not convinced he's a true point guard. I'm not sure the staff is convinced. He didn't get a lot of playing time at Arizona, but was behind some very good players. Hopefully he has continued to improve and will be solid for us. I think Lovett is terrific. I don't think it's realistic to expect that Simon will play the point over him. Hopefully they play together.

My only take is it seems that for the last four or five games Marcus just seems to be mailing it in. Maybe the leauge is adjusting to him or maybe he's already thinking about where he'll be next year. If he is leaving I hope he goes out with a bang against gtown.

In a doomsday scenario of Lovett not coming back I think Ponds plays PG. Simon at the 2. Ponds played well when Lovett was out and our ball movement was pretty good. But then again our ball movement was much better first half of the year I thought even though we beat better teams 2nd half of the year

Think we know one thing When Simon and Clark come on board someone is not starting Do not think we would be recruiting them if they were going to come off the bench mo that would not be propelling the program Based on our play we need to up grade the talent of the starting 5

Like everyone else I really hope Lovett stays, but if he goes I don't see it as a doomsday scenario. If he does go my hope is that SImon can effectively man the PG spot, so that Ponds can stay at his more natural 2G spot. He's so effective as a scorer, and will only get better, that I would hate to have him distracted with PG duties.

Just going by videos, it looks to me like Simon would spend most of his time at the 2 and 3.

Also Clark doesn't look like he plays the typical lunch pail PF role. I think he will also spend some time at the 3 spot.

if Lovett is gone, I expect to see a fifth-year guard in addition to a fifth-year big man. The defense will be better with Simon, but I don't think he averaged more than 20 ppg as a senior. We'll still need some experienced scoring punch back there to help him and Ponds, either as a starter over Simon or combo guard backing both guys up.

Oh we are seriously fudged up the fudging fudgeway if Lovett leaves.

Yeah, we might as well just fold the basketball program if he leaves.

I certainly would miss him, not easy to replace his numbers. Also was looking forward to Simon, Ponds & ML playing together at times to really get running.

see this is EXACTLY the problem with college kids. They don't see the difference between getting accolades as a bright future in his college game, and getting accolades thinking they must be pro ready. Lovett & Ponds aka Batman & Robin , have a chance to a top 5 backcourt next year in all college. They also have a chance to be one of the top all time johnnies backcourts. BUT......they need to mature, define their game, and gain experience!!! Why is it we all can see a great future and not some of these kids or their so called advisors? Look no further than Lenny Cook, Omar Cook, Rasheed Jordan, on and on and on. Kids who stay will only define their game. Imagine D'Angelo leaving after his frosh season. Now his is a mature defined played, and oh btw one of St Johns all time scorers. The future is so bright for these two, DO NOT LEAVE!!!! Go Johnnes!!!
