Marvin Clark

I agree that MC is probably frustrated by having to defend bigger & stronger players every night. It is very difficult to body up players that are that much bigger and stronger than you, however, he does manage to get 1-2 ticky tack fouls when reaching 25 feet from the basket.

“On the bench, Clark kept yapping and was hit with another technical. When all that free-throw shooting was done at 17:00, Providence (15-12, 5-9) led, 43-30.”

““He apologized [after],” Heron said of Clark. “It’s a high-emotion game. He was frustrated. Who wouldn’t be frustrated in a game like that? He picks up his fourth foul and gets a tech right after. Who’s not going to be frustrated on the bench?”
Mullin was more direct.

“I told him he didn’t show up,” Mullin said. “It wasn’t a question. It was a statement.”

I'm not disputing what he did to get the second T. That was obvious.

I just didn't think the first T was justified, and calling that is what led to actions of the second T (though, since Clark already had 5 fouls, it was cemantics anyway).

Should have been reamed out at halftime for foul trouble yet again and making zero contribution to the team. Why didn't guys on bench tell him to be quiet?

At 24 years old, you expect more from him. Hurt the team with his play, his attitude, and his mouth. Start Keita or Roberts. Sit him for first 10 minutes.

the whole team hurt themselves with their play. lets no single out Marvin. They were all terrible

The difference is while others played poorly, Clark's selfishness prevented him from playing at all.

The Clark saga is frustrating from so many angles . He is suppose to be a Senior Player with Leadership qualities and act like one ., Having fouled out of 8 games and sitting on the Bench is other games due to foul trouble , you would think Marvin would have learned something? He doesn’t have a Inside Player game and we understand that he doesn’t . Can’t knock that . But, he should realize his value to this team is NOT on the defensive end ! His job , which he should think about retrieving is to shoot from outside , draw his defender out , like he should have done against Watson and either shoot his 3 pointer or, taken Watson to the hoop and get a foul or Basket. Maybe both . But , that didn’t happen and hasn’t happened in most of the games Marvin has played . Losing his Cool , while likely not the cause of this lackluster Team performance , did cause the Roof to cave in .. After that , the Team effort and results were finished . Loss inevitable . Going forward , Let’s hope Clark gets his head back in the game and realize we need his points , not his fouls on defense .

Marvin may have the feelings that he does having to always guard the other teams big man and feels he is always giving up a size and maybe a strength advantage. But, we switch on every pass and he's not always on that guy. I think it's more demoralizing for our guards to always be caught defending down low on a frontcourt player. The way we switch, if the opposing team moves the ball enough during a possession they will get a considerable mismatch in their favor eventually. You can just see looks on Ponds, Heron and Simon's faces when they are basically forced to commit a foul down low because they basically have no other option when switched on to a 6'8 or 6'9 guy.

I'm sorry, but it starts at the top. Mullin doesn't stop whining all game. And some of his staff are now starting to participate. When I coached, I could tell when an official had had enough. Over time, I knew exactly what I could get away with. Mullin obviously doesn't. And his players see him complaining all game, and are now part of the issue. Clark's behavior was inexcusable last night. Embarrassing to himself and the program. Its one of the reasons you see fans on other Boards spewing hate for the team. Mullin needs to get under control and fast. Its bad enough that this team is so jekyll & Hyde. This just adds another thing the team has to deal with during the game.
Refs going above and beyond to silence our critiques of calls, must have been taken up by league refs together. If coach won’t discipline them refs will.
What's Mullin supposed to say to them? Do as I say, not as I do?

He needs to come off the bench. But the problem is that Keita isn't starter-worthy, and Roberts and Earlington never received enough PT to prepare them for the role.

Thats the exact problem. The solution is for Clark to be cognizant of the situation and not foul away from the basket.
Dare we lay any of the blame on the staff? They’ve only had him in the gym for 3 years now. Of course responsibility is solely his when on the court. So either the point is not getting across or it’s being completely ignored.
I made light of the team basically ignoring the staff early in the season. It's hard to change the culture of a country club mentality into a Bobby Knight bootcamp overnight.

My money is he comes off the bench next game.

Except, they are going to do Senior Night at Saturday's game, instead of the home finale (probably because that's a 6:30 start on a weeknight) so I can't see that happening.

That poor offensive scenario is being designed by Greg St. Jean and Mullin. One has to be separated from the other. They simply don't coach well together if the past 3 years is a barometer. I won't mention Mitch Richmond who I think is just a publicity stunt with this program.

While Marvin had a melt down and commits too many silly fouls, he always plays hard and seems like a good guy. Hopefully, he will right the ship on Saturday.
