@Marquette, Sat., Feb. 10, 6p, FS-1

Unfortunately, nothing that happened yesterday is translating over to @Marquette on Saturday. This team hasnt been consistant at doing anything from game to game. So to think anything from yesterdays glorified scrimmage is going to pay dividends on Saturday is just blind homerism.

A few things

it has been mentioned on the board that we are not athletic enough. I don’t see how we can guard MQ 94 feet and be competitive.

l don’t see the love for Anderson. He doesn’t rebound. He doesn’t penetrate off the bounce putting pressure on the defense so he can pass, therefore he gets minimum assists.

I have yet to see Wilcher take it to the hoop. Isn’t that what guards do?

I would give Conway more time. He chases down loose balls, can put two dribbles together and give effort on the boards.

I think Zuby is a better fit than Joel for this game. I would like to see him get more playing time.

Ledlum is a warrior on the boards. Great effort from an undersized forward.

Maybe you aren't a blind homer, but you are being a defeatist which is equally as eye roll inducing

If Dingle comes out against Marquette and helps us by hitting a few threes, whos to say that the DePaul game didn't provide a spark and a help in getting him back on track? Obviously no guarantees, but IMO just kinda senseless in speaking in absolutes about what will/won't carry over. We just have to see.

Ya know how you get more 3 point shot attempts? You share the ball and let it find the shooters with some room and time to launch it. You could also tell Glenn Taylor that every shot doesn't need to be perfect, and ask Soriano why he stopped taking the wide open 3 from the top of the key once league play started.
Joel did take one 3 last night and I hear UBS Arena is ordering a replacement backboard.

I am just saying there is 3/4ths of a season of evidence that this will not happen. I am a realist not a defeatist. I can only go by what this team has showed me time and time again this year.

To me Kolek can dominate and control game pace and spacing more than any other guard in BE. Number two may be Spencer of UConn. Both are portal jewels for their programs. We need to identify heady players like them this portal cycle, albeit hard to replicate. Give me me fundamentally sound guards as opposed to highlight reel guys who too often hunt stats and are not invested in team first approach.

Noooo, noooo! Let him be a defeatist. I now feel a lil better about our chances on Saturday. If we come out on top Saturday, then it'll without a doubt prove that the opposite of what he says occurs.

To make more threes you gotta give yourself the opportunity to make more threes. Our team came in last night with a gameplan to practice opening up the offense more and played more free. Pitino specifically cited how he wanted guys to shoot more and change their mentality, which he felt helped Dingle "get over the hump" last night.

Maybe we go into Marquette and go right back to playing timid with only one kid who can make a 3 (Jenkins), but I think its silly to act like we know exactly what St. John's we are getting Saturday when we have an already up and down team that is clearly making alterations to their gameplan/approach as we progress through the season. Again, we just have to wait and see.

But what if having played Depaul- changes what's "real" for this team... hang with me for a sec.

Pitino obviously wanted his guys to shoot as often as they could last night, and he knew he had a good margin of error given his opponent was not going to be much a threat, so he could afford this approach. He mentioned in the post game in ref to Dingle "... i'm upset he didn't go 0-25..." when speaking about his shooting struggles... Watching the game last night, you saw our guys have little to no hesitation shooting it. Taylor/Conway/Wilcher all got in on the act as well. Last night could* be the catalyst for a new approach this team takes - when you're Open- shoot it. Novel concept, i know lol...

Given the weak opponent- I am much happier we won by that Margin shooting the 3, than pounding it inside all night. We'll see if this approach remains on Saturday.

At minimum, yesterday gave us insight into what Pitino wants out of Dingle. That wasn't really clear for fans. Let's see if he's shooting with confidence.

It’s no secret that Pitino loves the 3 point shot. It’s been that way since he revolutionized both the college and pro game in the 80’s.

He wants Dingle, and most everyone else, to move the ball for open 3’s, shoot them, and make enough to end up with one more point than Marquette.

Im in. But I will not believe it till I see it.

I don't think it hit the backboard. He is deadly from 12 feet and he was like 7 of 8 early in the season. I agree if he's going to shoot them like that then he shouldn't take them. But based on his midrange jumper and what he did before that, you would think he should take 1 or 2 a game.

Our last three vs Marquette. Some excruciating defeats. Can the basketball gods throw us a bone?

I think my favorite Marquette memory (other than defending that physically and mentally weak POS Markus Howard into oblivion on multiple occasions) was Ponds at Alumni Hall dropping something like 42 on them. First they defended him and couldn't stop him. Then they doubled him, same result. Eventually Wojo triple-teamed him and he still scored. Just carved their hearts out of their chest and ate it in front of them. Spectacular.
