Mark Jackson

There have been a few posters critical of Jackson's coaching ability yet every talking head on ESPN and TNT I have heard has unanimously praised his coaching ability and think it would be a joke if he was fired. The only thing I can surmise is those critical of Jackson probably think Lavin is a cross between john Wooden and Arnold "Red" Auerbach.

I didn't actually hear any praise for his coaching ability -- I heard friends of his saying it was crazy to fire a 50-game winner, which usually is correct. And they said that his players like him. I had heard differently months ago, but if they do like him, then management better pick the replacement carefully.

I'd wait for Doc Rivers to resign. And then when Adam Silver lets all the Clippers walk, hope that DeAndre Jordan follows him.

That's because he's got a lot of friends at the networks. If it weren't for Draymond Green that Warriors team would've lost every game by 40. Jackson is not a good coach at all lower 20% in the league. In fairness, there's Popovich/Rivers/Thibs/Spoelstra and then there's everyone else. Easy to spot which guys aren't up to scruff.

First of all, I'm not even going to ask why you cited Draymond Green as the reason they were competitive (his 6 PPG numbers saved them from getting blown out by 40!?).

Secondly, I have to ask, why you'd say Jackson can't coach? I'm not buying that several analysts of the nba just say Jackson is a good coach cause they are friends. Come on now, they say he's a good coach cause he has the results to back it up. If he was in the bottom 20% of the league coaches, then the coaches of the bucks, jazz, magic, cavs, Knicks, hawks, grizzlies, celtics, suns, kings, Wolves, lakers, sixers, positions, pelicans and nuggets must be pretty damn amazing even though they all could not win as many games as Jackson's warriors. If Jackson is a bad coach, I don't even know what Lavin is.

If Lavin does not produce next season and Jackson is available. He should be our next coach.

Jackson is a phony reverend and a cheating fornicator. The only former player worthy of the job would be Chris Mullin.

72, I know the Maven would agree with your description of Jackson, LOL !!!!!

I know he would since he calls them as he see them. Doing so gets fans like him, and me, in trouble some times.

We all need to come to grips that Lavin isn't going anywhere this year.

That being said:

@WojYahooNBA: Golden State owner and GM meeting with Mark Jackson now, and sources close to management and coaching staff believe Jackson will be fired.

I can tell you have absolutely no knowledge of the NBA. Regular season W's and L's are not an indicator of a good coach in the NBA JW. Do any of those teams you listed have the best two shooters in the NBA in its backcourt? a top perimeter defender in AI? And several QUALITY big men? This guy is spoiled rotten with talent and you're reasoning for him being a good coach is the wins he picked up in the regular season. None of those teams you listed have any semblance of the talent possessed by the Warriors.

Draymond is a glue guy. Again you're looking at generic numbers but clearly don't watch the games. He allowed GS to play small and also remain competitive in the paint. Without him they would not have won 3 games.

As an avid fan and gambler in NBA ball I can say with unequivocal certainty that Jackson is an awesome motivator, but a horrible x's and o's coach. Watch the games before you spout about stuff you don't know.

Guess this puts an end to the argument...

@sam_amick: Mark Jackson will not be back as Golden State Warriors coach, @USATODAYsports has learned. Story to come.

Yeah, winning 51 games for the first time in 25 years, back to back playoff appearances in a loaded Western Conference, playing defense for the first time in franchise history, having universal support of your players, losing to a higher seed with your starting center on the bench.

Sounds like he sucks to me.

Can't believe how many people on this thread steadfastly defend a guy with whom they know very little about. Defense? They gave up 340 points their last 3 games, and that's NOT counting the 138 they yielded in game two.

Arguably a top 5 team in terms of talent was bounced in the first round, a clear step back from last year,

This guy is adversarial, opinionated and unqualified. Several instances during his tenure where he and his team lacked class. Can talk the talk but it starts and ends there. Glad to see him get canned

I'm not glad to see him get canned and I loved him as a player at St. John's. However, I lost a lot of respect for Jackson when he said the fans should stay away from the Staples Center AFTER the commissioner got rid of Sterling and the Clipper players decided they were going to play the game. Really? Is that all you can bring to the conversation? Totally self serving and stupid.

Self serving and stupid describes everything about this guy. Grew up in the mid 90's watching him on the Pacers and pretty much hated him ever since.

I can only describe Jackson as a fraud. From cheating on his wife and posing as a minister. To the comments he routinely made in the media.

He said in the playoffs last year that the nuggets sent hitmen after Curry and he had inside info from their team. He pulled amateurish tactics like announcing a starting lineup and then flipping it routinely. A real genius.

He fired two coaches in two week, one excusable the other befitting of his temperamental state. Oh yeah and then he banned the logo from going to Warriors practices... Did I mention he's a crappy coach?

This guy is adversarial, opinionated and unqualified.

You seem like you're in the know. I respect that. I do.

But let's ask around just to be sure.

Yo Steph, what do you think about the numbskull coaching your team?

"I love Coach more than anybody, and I think for him to be in a situation where his job is under scrutiny and under question is totally unfair," Curry said. "What Coach has gone through this year has been unlike anything I've seen -- just the amount of distractions and the circus that's been around him and decisions he's had to make,"

Okaaaaay. Klay, help me out here. Must've been difficult playing for that guy.

"I love him," guard Klay Thompson said. "I love playing for Coach Jackson. I hope he's back. He makes it so fun to go to work every day. I got so much better under his tutelage in three years. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have him the last three years."

Yeah well, Draymond, give it to me straight. Ain't no way he got the most out of you guys, right?

"That's definitely what Coach has built, guys who are going to give max effort," forward Draymond Green said. "That's what he preaches every single day. And you fall in line, everybody. You just fall in line. If you have a great leader, you fall in line."

All right let me go to a veteran. Somebody who has actually been around the game. Andre, tell me what it was like playing for this empty suit.

"His presence affects the entire team just from a respect level, from a spiritual level, making every guy a better man," forward Andre Iguodala said. "And those are the things you'll remember looking back on your career, not only how you grew as a basketball player but how you grew as a man. It's a very rare trait in a basketball coach."

You think they were more talented than the clippers? I think forcing them to 7 was a decent result. Or do u condemn them for not earning a better seed in the reg season. An often injured bogut +lee+green+spreight is a weak frontline. and curry as good as he is has no talent defensively

Without addressing your insufferable sarcasm MM and with all do respect to the young warriors, it's the owner who writes checks not the players. Players like him because they're 20-something's who wouldn't know professionalism and class if it hit them in the head. They also arent going to bash a coach to the media if there's a chance he will be back, which at that time there was.

They laud his spirituality but what are they supposed to say? "Coach had no prior experience at any level and is a self proclaimed spiritual leader even after having an affair with a stripper and trying to cover it up with money." Plus it was iguodola the classy vet who was feeding Jackson information the year before while on Denver. Real class act. I could reference 10-15 things off the top of my head that he's done in his late 40's which show he is a trashy guy. Glad GS wised up and took out the garbage.

Seems like you really have a hate for Mark Jackson. I don't think the firing had anything to do with his coaching abilities or him cheating on his wife. It had to do with what seemed like ego issues between coaches and owner/GM. Don't worry, the Warriors owner will regret this when Curry doesn't resign with the team or the team doesn't play as hard under a new coach.

Don't forget, this team did take the Clippers to game 7 without their starting center, who has been a rebounding machine. If they had Bogut to cover Deandre Jordan and/or Blake Griffin, they probably would've won the series. And also, the Clippers are one of the best teams in the loaded West Conference. It's not like this was a normal first round matchup. It seemed like a least the second round, if not the Conference Finals. Give credit to Mark Jackson when it's due.
