Asked Marcus LoVett Jr. about returning to St. John's: "I don't know." #sjubb

Sources believe it can go either way with Marcus LoVett Jr returning. Will meet with family to figure it out. #sjubb Could go pro.

I don't know his personal financial situation, however I look at a guy like Hart that hangs around and improves his draft stock with Nova. I'd love to see our guards doing the same thing.
Some how, some way, this program must find stability.

Watching Marcus play all season, it obvious he has the talent to make money playing this game. He is lightning quick, can shoot and, this part is key, can distribute the ball.

I think he would have had more pub if he was passing to people who could catch and finish. unless it was Ponds open for 3 or Owens for a dunk in transition....he probably didnt feel comfortable with the people at the other end of his passes....

Would hate to see him go. Not sure he has any NBA stock either, maybe overseas?

Maybe? Obviously.

Always have D League, hence the not so obvious.

Not really. D League doesn't pay enough to live on much less support other family members ($19,500-26,000 per year), unless you're attached to an NBA roster. So I'm giving Marcus a little more credit than to make that bad a decision. You can make so much more than that overseas and they pay your living expenses as well.

Fair enough. Not sure what his motives are (financial as opposed to an NBA dream) so i wont speculate on that. Seems like a good kid, if this was the last we see of him it was a fun year.

The thing with playing overseas is that when you are +/- 6' tall it is a lot more competitive and marketing wise local teams are going to favor local flavor while Americans always get begrudging acceptance only when they are clearly superior. Even then I've watched some Euro hoops where the star was say Italian on an Italian team, and clearly better players from the US on the team were used as role players and you could even see them deferring to the "stars."

Lovett could be a John Linehan type player if he got a little more physically mature and worked on his defense. Linehan didn't get drafted but had a Euro career as a defensive specialist. At Providence Linehan though small was physically mature. Lovett is probably a year or two away. Lovett a little taller and more skilled offensively might have more upside but he has a lot of work to do to make that real. He had problems with college guards both on offense and defense. Whoever is telling him to go pro is probably looking at their own meal ticket. He is at least a year or two away both physically and in skills.

How often does a kid meet with his family and decide to return to school? It doesn't seem to happen as much as leaving school after a family meeting. I'm being realistic about this but hopeful.

I realize he's a little older than the typical one-and-done player, but PG is really a position that requires poise/maturity to truly succeed at the next level. Really hope that he stays at least one more year -- think it would pay significant dividends for his long term prospects. We've seen way too many talented point guards leave too early.

I believe the new NBA CBA raised the D league salaries to 75,000 a year. Maybe that's enough to entice him.

Asking him that question after demoralizing defeat may not exactly been the best timing. Maybe wait until Monday. OTOH he may have been mentally outta here for the past month or so.

I think Linehan was best on ball defender in BE history, or at least close.

I'd like to have Marcus back.

That said, if he decided to go pro, it would present an opportunity to put a bigger guard next to Ponds, which would not be the worst thing in the world. It's tough playing D with two six-footers in the backcourt. Also Ponds and Lovett have not seemed to develop any chemistry on the floor, too often it is either/or in terms of one of them having a big game. If the 2nd guard was not quite as ball-dominant as Ponds and Lovett both are, that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

Just saying.

Thanks to the NCAA for robbing us of a year.
