LoVett Done For Season

I wanted him to qualify this year as much as the next guy, as I think he could have benefited from Big East play, and of course we need him badly. That said, this is much better than having him prep this past year. We get him on campus, integrated with the team, and practicing against college level players.
Took the words out of my mouth and was going to post the same thing.. Not the worse thing. Unlike . Sampson, don't have to rerecruit him. He is practicing and developing chemistry w the team. He's in the bag for next year and may be around for 4 more years.

Ditto and ditto.

I was hoping we'd see Lovett this year, but at least this is resolved and we can move on with the roster we have. ML can put in the necessary work on and off the court and be ready for next season.

His knee injury played into decision not to litigate. Maybe the NCAA decision is a blessing in disguise. Not sure when he initially injured his knee, but it seems like he would have missed a chunk of the season anyway.

More lies out of SJU

Yes, quite possibly not true. But I am okay with the lies if it is in the interest of preserving the players dignity.

Perhaps LoVett really didn't fulfill a high school curriculum comensurrate with other college freshman. I always default to thinking the NCAA is wrong, but we don't really know the facts.

I am just glad he is here. Ultimately going to be a dynamic player for us.

Just curious, what lies? Not saying there aren't any but my understanding is that any litigation regarding eligibility would legally have to come from the player, not the school. As johnnyfan says the knee injury could be true or merely a way for Lovett to save a little face. I posted before, I believe the threat of litigation was used as a chip to attempt to influence the NCAA, nothing more. To me , they tried, it didn't work. Am I missing something?

Sorry for not being clear. The injury line is BS. He's been practicing with no issues for awhile now. To throw that out there now is BS since they were continuing to try to find a way to get him eligible

May have missed this, but was Oliva appointed AD or is still an interim appointment? Probably more than most, I feel strongly that a solid AD is essential & wonder what qualifies Oliva. Not blaming him for anything related to LoVett, but hope he is not or has not been appointed, because he wants the job. Not to beat a dead horse, but I believe finding the best qualified & experienced person is essential in modern sports era.

Still interim but I'd be shocked if he wasn't eventually full time.

i see this as a lesson...now LoVett and Owns will be eligible ....pretty sure we don't have to worry about Bashir either....now focus on making SURE Ponds is eligible !

Never give up a cushy NBA job for a moribund college program?

He is absolutely, positively still getting treatment on his knee. He may be practicing but that is a fact, not a lie. Whether or not he could play in a game right now, I'm not sure.

If you are recruiting a kid with questions surrounding eligibility make sure one of his HS teammates with similar issues is going to Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, etc

A lot of guys are getting treatment. Like you said he is practicing and practicing just fine. Its just bush league to throw that in as a reason that they aren't pursuing any further actions. They threatened and internally had people who thought they found loopholes and would get him approved. So much that they told everyone and anyone about these findings and he would be eligible.

To come out and use the injury as a reason is BS.

One has to assume the "internal" people leaked their optimism freely. That "Thursday or Friday" LoVett decision "stuff" was way out there in the media. I was one of the dopes who bit, lol.

Again not sure how anyone could be overly optimistic he will eligible next season?

lesson is don't wait until next year to scramble to get his affairs in order. Make sure YOUR recruit is focusing on his grades now to be eligible in COLLEGE. We got involves with LoVett late so that doesn't count, but Ponds is a year away. Im sure Matt and Slice are on top of it, they are two of the best in the business.

Because he's in school. I understand you are cynical and you're allowed to be based on everything that comes with being an SJU fan. I can't imagine many partial qualifiers never get eligible. Once they get on campus and take classes it changes things. Now if you want to wonder if he just picks up and leaves that is fine but he's a smart kid who was pushed around by the wrong people to different HS's and didnt complete all the necessary credits.

Assuming info is true on him being a PQ, he will be set to go if in good academic standing, as Moose noted. If LoVett is not assured of that, he will not stick around IMO. Where he would go is anyone's guess. I truly believe he will be fine, but do respect differing opinions based on NCAA/SJU "Bizarro World"
