Louisville

We didnt get beat down. Cuse and GTOWN games were beatdowns. We had a chance to make the game close with 5 minutes left, just missed shots.
please we lost i dont wanna hear we were withing 12 please we lost enough with the moral v

I don't think Jack is talking about a moral victory, rather he's responding to your claim that we got blown out in this game, which we did not.
i beg to differ i never felt they would win i know this team to well . when they went up in the 2 half i knew louisville run was just a matter of time they lost by 15-16 thats a blowout i dont wanna here we were withing 10 with 5 to go please

Miguel, what exactly is your definition of a blowout? just because the final is 14 points does the mean we got blown out?

Syracuse and Louisville were the only teams i felt could blow us out... and they did. They bright side is we don't have to play them again. I think we can win or be very competitive in our last games. We need to hope the rest of the bubble teams struggle

Let's break it down..... Marquette is just as good as the Cuse and Louisville, if you agree with the statement, "you are what your record says you are", at ND.... Tough one as they just beat the Ville there. Pitt has been tough as of late. Providence is no slouch up there, and then there is South Florida home.....winnable. Realistically we may be looking at only one more win.

very well could play out like that.

I'm hoping for USF,Prov and Pitt. Marquette hasnt been great on the road so if we can pull out the other 3 then that last game of the regular season could be a real big game for us
thats what i said
we better win the 3 games usf pitt prov and we have a shot again

Look, seriously guys. Do you all recall that two seasons ago, we were flying high after the Pitt win, everything was breaking right, we were number 8 in the country, and then Brownlee breaks a finger, is never the same, Hardy returns to earth, and we limp into the NCAA for a one and out.

This year, once Branch got inserted in the starting lineup, we looked markedly better. Not as good as the senior laden NR-Lavin team, but we added an additional solid player, and things were looking up. Four games against pretty good competition, UCONN at home and Gtown, Louisville, Cuse on the road. Even with Branch, we prob go 1 and 3, but there would have been hope to steal one road game.

My best guess is that we can beat USF without Branch and possibly Providence also, but to win against both Marquette and Pitt at the Garden, we need Branch back at 85% form. ND on the road is lkely another loss, and really that's our season. Be that as it may, going 4-1 in these five games was probably the roadmap anyways.

For a team that isn't deep in the bench, everything has to go right. Right now it isn't, but if Branch is improving, there is a still a shot at 11 wins. Ten wins is still a very respectable campaign. Keep your chins up, even if we just took one solidly on that same proverbial chin.

i know that but to me saying we were down 10 with five to go sound silly . but look we both love the jhonnies lets beat southflorida i believe we will. then hopefully pitt and prov. im with you man but just being real if we dont beat all three we are done

Forget this game now. Must fully concentrate on South Florida. Cannot afford to fall asleep on them. Get back on the winning track.
However, every remaining game the opposing team feels they can beat the Johnnies, you can count on their coach preaching that.
These games are going to be brutal down the stretch. No gimme's

Good. We play better as an underdog IMO. Just when everyone counts us out we steal one. Remember last year when we were terrible then we beat ND who was ranked late in the year? I can't even tell you how overdue this team is for a crazy 3 pt shooting day. Not sure if anyone knows off hand, but when was the last time we shot 40%+ from 3 the entire game? Jakarr was ice cold, Harrison is still ice cold from 3, Marco is cold from 3, etc. I think we steal one from Pitt/Marquette/ND. We just got blown out by 3 ranked teams...time to take one. We need to win vs. USF, Providence, and steal 1 or 2 from the Pitt/Marquette/ND group to even have an outside chance. 2/3 from Pitt/Marquette/ND and wins vs. USF and Prov would put us at 19-11 (11-7) which gets us in. Basically we need to go 4-1 at least.

I know people are frustrated but take a step back and realize that these last three losses all came on the road against arguably the three best teams in the Big East. We are playing without our starting PG, and the last two games without our head coach. Win 4 of the last 5 and we are dancing IMO.

Amen
um thats what i said

Amen to your post as well, didn't mean to make you feel left out lol.

3. We are not good, at all. We can't shoot, play defense, or game plan.

And yet somehow we beat 15 other teams, including two Top 25s. I guess miracles do happen.

Pitino seemed to game plan that. We were (understandably) completely beaten between the ears

Agree, thought they did a great job of penetrating nearly every possession and not settling for outside shots.
Zone or man - they found a way to take it to the basket.

We could learn something from that.

All we do is dribble at half court, pass it a few times to stationary players, dribble backwards with the shot clock down to 10 and get off an awful shot with 5 secs left.
You could be a scout. That's our offense to a tee. But we don't think opposing coaches can figure it out (or maybe that we will continue to employ it?).

Phil Greene is literally the only player that played a decent game. Harrison is so bad on defense. Any NBA talk for this kid...even top Euro needs to stop. He is painfully slow and he shoots the ball from deep or that ugly baseline shot from his chin that he'll literally never get off against professional competion.

Nobody can create a thing but Greeene. Harrison can't get away from a decent defender, and Sampson and Pointer are turnovers waiting to happen whenever they touch the ball outside of 15 feet. I hate Greene's overdribbling, but if he didn't do that crap who would create ANYTHING?

Pointer is so bad offensively. Sampson is great for a 15 foot spot up or a few moves inside after a rebound, but he has no perimeter game. Holy crap do we need Branch.
You say Harrison can't get away from his defender. Watch him off the ball-lacks the quickness to shake his defender and doesn't make sharpe enough cuts to compensate. Not a receipe to make it at the next level.

If you would have told me coming in that L'Ville would shoot 38% FG and 25% for the entire game, I would assume the game was either within 5 points, or that we won. How do we get blown out by a team shooting that terribly?

It was men against boys out there. They were beasts and we were bitties. They crashed the boards, we fell on our swords. They came to win, our effort was a sin.

We did NOT GET BLOWN OUT

Come tournament time, the committee isn't going to sit down and say, "Well, St. John's was close at the 9 minute mark of the 2nd half." They are going to look at the final scores (19 to Syracuse, 14 to Louisville) and come to the conclusion that St. John's couldn't stay close with the better teams in our conference.

Anybody suggesting that Sampson is a first round pick really needs to watch this game. He played horrific basketball all game long. Along with Pointer, he was completely sloppy with the basketball and repeatedly made bad decisions. But more concerning is his continued usage of the off balance jump shot. I don't know what he thinks he's doing, but taking a fadeaway jump shot from 15 to 18 feet when you're not even that great of a shooter is not the best decision. Set your feet and shoot. I think he's under the belief that he can knock down that shot consistently and I don't think he has made one all season long.

When there is no true point card, several other players spend considerable time in positions other than their best position. The result is dysfunction. Players like Dom and Green have poor games because they aren't point guards.
When there is no true center/power forward the same negative ripples through the ranks.
Coaching and great play can temporarily cover this byproduct of having role players out of their role, but only temporarily...a few games or part of a game.
This team has the potential to be top tier when it has players added or returned who can fill the two major voids..inside power and outside point. Until then we will be nail-biting through the games with teams with their own weaknesses and taking a double digit loss from the more elite.
It seems clear this core will be back next year..can we fill out the missing ingredients or will it be a replay of "almost, but not quite good enough". Stay tuned and keep expectations in a reality check mode for the remainder of the year. NCAA is a reach, doable but we need some good luck and good health the rest of the way.
