Lefty kid on Norm’s team doesn’t make it because if played for Norm you are ineligible

One of these is before your time but Ed Searcy & Sir Dom were right up there.

Ryan Williams.

He may have done it after that game but you maybe referring to his most famous fist bump/skip which of course was the BET Final vs Syracuse in 1986.

Go to 1:32:00 of the game and watch a replay of the end and of course Looie's reaction.

Skip? That was a triple jump! 😊

The best one (although hated by everyone who isn't a Duke fan) was and still is Christian Laettner.

I kept in contact with Elander for a while but lost contact. He did reappear on campus once or twice (even an MSG game IIRC) for basketball Alumni events. He finished out his career at VCU and averaged double figures both seasons there.
Where I come from Buffalo is not "upstate" NY.

Sherman Douglas was phenomenal in college. We went nuts when we beat Cuse at MSG ( I think Douglas got hurt in the game ). I had a theology class with Boo. He actually went to class he was quiet but nice guy. That year with his last second shots I don’t remember any player hitting that many last second shots. ESPKEN how many were there that year ? I definitely did play by play for one of them at MSG for the school radio station I think I did 2 but maybe I’m getting the second one confused with being down at the GTOWN game
Boo comes to CA regularly With his family . .looks to be in great shape. . .good looking family

I think you are referring to the Syracuse game at the garden where Sherman hurt his back early in the first half and went to the locker room. St. Johns controlled most of game but it was still tight. Sherman emerged from locker room to check in midway through 2nd half and Syracuse fans (40% of garden as usual) went crazy. He played but was mostly ineffective and sju held on. Michael Edwards I believe was the backup cuse PG. Stevie Thompson probably played pg as well. He was another marvel.
Edit - I see above where this was discussed. Maybe I am conflating games.

LouLou...Elander Lewis. Totally forgot about him. From Albany HS was a big deal when he got a scholarship to SJU. I am from upstate NY.

High School stars from upstate rarely were good enough to go to Power 6 schools. Greg Koubek a few years later going to Duke from Shenendehowa-Clifton Park was another one.
Elander started a bunch of games and Lou would yank him after about 3 minutes and that was that.

I thought Sherman got hurt during the game too but it's so long ago I could be wrong but we definitely won :)

Great stuff.
Always what ifs with SJU but what if Jayson Williams stayed healthy that year... how far could that team have gone?
That was a final four team. No hyperbole.

Harvey and Williams were seniors who could both dominate games in big moments. They had moxie, but knew how to play a team game.
We remember Harvey’s heroics that year, but we almost forget how good Williams was. He became an NBA first round prospect after his junior season.

The battle of the big men in the BE was Coleman and Williams.
Then they still had Malik was option three. Singleton was the sixth man.

I was covering the game for the Torch. I remember the post game when Williams came with crutches and you could see in his face it was season ending. Williams was always smiling and talking to reporters. He was very somber, as was the mood of the entire team.

Looie should have gotten them tutors since both were academically ineligible in 88-89 which along with Sproling being Prop 48 led SJU to being a 8th place BE team and NIT bound instead of NCAA which at the time Looie had had one of the longest NCAA streaks.

Of course Porter just skipped out at least Harvey stayed and got eligible for 89-90.

Quick story on Harvey he was originally a Syracuse commitment back when he was a senior in HS in 84-85. However he failed to qualify so he went JUCO and paired with Porter at San Jacinto. So Syracuse had an extra scholarship and needed a PG to back up Pearl for what would be Pearl's last year 85-86. They found a PG in DC (Spingarn HS) named Sherman Douglas. He was not offered by Georgetown. He was not heavily recruited. He was basically a last minute offer by Boeheim because Harvey failed to qualify. And of course he barely played in 85-86 but would have one of the best PG careers of any BE guard ever over his final 3 years.
Sherman Douglas was actually a top 50 prospect. He wasn't offered by Georgetown due to an issue between John Thompson and Sprigarn's coach at that time.

Jayson Williams was injured against Georgetown at MSG on a Saturday afternoon game on CBS. I recall being annoyed we lost and felt the outcome may have been different with Williams.

Yes it was I was at that game. Drove down from upstate NY for that game. Led at halftime I believe but Gtown size was too much, Werdann got into foul trouble with some ticky tack fouls.

Check this video out on You Tube and go to the 17:24 mark. It has a highlight from that game at MSG in 1990. Then it goes to the game at Cap Center where Boo hit the shot to beat them.

BTW-Notice who is doing the game in DC, it is an ESPN game Tim Brando and Bill Raftery....
