Looking to Next Season

Yes, sometimes reading too much into their posts is silly, but in some instances what they post is quite literal. They are adults by law. That being said, after Clark posted he's committed to us, Ponds posted a picture from midnight madness in his SJ jersey. Would think that bodes well for him coming back next year at least.
At the risk of being labeled ‘panglossian’, I can make a (decent, even if ‘eh case) that St. John’s may be better next season than many on this Board think.
Our Core 3 may all improve from 2017-18 production levels.
Ponds may be stronger, totally healed, have worked out shooting kinks, and will no doubt be determined to show his mettle to NBA evaluators.
Simon may work in the off season to improve both his FT and FG % and his ‘finishing skills’ driving to the hoops.
Clark may blossom, confident in his shot, and honing it.
Messrs Dixon, Keita, Williams, Roberts, Diakite may contribute more than we think with their skills and athleticism.
And, we could be a ‘beast’ in the Conference next year IF we can get at least 1 and, ideally, 2 BE-capable Big guys to join us for the hunt.
Just sayin’.
Can we please leave religion out of a basketball discussion. Thank-you. ;)
100% need at least 2 solid bigs for next year. We already needed 1 before Owens left. Now that he left we definitely need 2. Sounds like Keita, Diakate, Roberts, etc. are all quite raw. We saw how decent size but raw skill worked out with Joey Delarosa. Also, please no more football players.
I assume the 7 foot soccer player from Guam Matt is looking at would be ok then?
At this point I don't even know if that's a joke or not lol. I'll settle for any 2 or 3 star kid at least 6'8 215+ lbs with any semblance of rebounding skill and a jump hook/soft touch. Are there really none out there who want to come play for us?
Yes! Unfortunately he just committed to Seton Hall.

Keita is 6-9 roberts is 6-10 and diakite is 6-8 we have ht we need rebounding put back and D from them and we will be fine
Why don’t you just wait & find out who they come up with?

Also, with all your repetitive critiques, you do know Mullin will be back next year and will have to succeed. One would think he knows that. Nothing magical will come from your constant moaning. I personally was never crazy about hiring CM. I find it practical to wait and see how team performs next year. It is clear you would prefer he disappear now, but that’s not happening. If we move on from Mullin, if he bombs next season, so be it. Then perhaps you can give recommendations for new HC to the powers to be who seem to be adept at making bad decisions. :)
was this address to Zaun or 72?

Diakite is coming off a brutal knee injury and weighs about 185 lbs. Counting on him for anything is a huge stretch.

Wise ass! Let's just knock the only poster here under age 30.:)
No offense Jack.;)

Paultzman, I think you are confusing this kid with Redmen07 who started the "Hire Pitino" thread.;)
I think everyone here agrees with you that it is practical to wait until next year. Well, maybe not Redmen07.
Finally, I have had more PM's that I can remember where a fan said "personally I was never crazy about hiring CM".
Kudos to you for admitting it publicly.;)
With likely 90% of the posters here feeling the same way, it shouldn't surprise anyone here that there are many negative comments regarding our staff.
I think Mike, Joe, Bob, Ted and Alice will be very happy if we turn this GS around next year. Recruiting doubts will linger until the 2019 class.

i thought they were out of schollies, does that mean the rumors are true and Walker is out?

From an article I was looking at (they also pointed out that Michael Nzei is likely to leave as he has some big money wall street offers on the table apparently):

Here is the Pirates’ projected scholarship depth chart for 2018-19.
Guards: Myles Powell, Quincy McKnight (Sacred Heart transfer), Anthony Nelson (freshman), Eron Gordon, Jordan Walker.
Wings: Myles Cale, Jared Rhoden (freshman).
Bigs: Taurean Thompson (Syracuse transfer), Michael Nzei, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Valdir Manuel (freshman), Romaro Gill (redshirt), Darnell Brodie (freshman).

I know it’s not a big deal, but Sedee Keita and Dixon are officially eligible to be on the team. I think it was official yesterday.

Just throwing this out there.

Weren't they on the team all year?

Re Mullin changing staff per Braziller
Mullin is comfortable with what he has. Higher-ups were encouraged by strong finish.

and therein lies the problem-he is too comfortable and there is no one to hold him accountable.

With all due respect to my hero of days gone yore: What the heck is CM 'thinking'? Our recruiting 'depth' is non-existent.

More Braziller
I think Chris is comfortable with his staff. Don't think money is the issue

Was he quizzed on his recruitment efforts or that of the staff?

I’ve read multiple times that if Ponds and Owens come back, we have a “good shot at making the tourney”. Is that our expectation? Maybe I’m too optimistic, but if our lineup looks similar to the names below, I’m definitely not satisfied “shooting for a tourney appearance”.

If Simon develops a jump shot he will be an absolute stud. Ponds is Ponds. Clark maybe my favorite Johnny of this era. TO at the 4 and we can finally play big.

I’m not saying I expect to run the table, but if we don’t expect to make a run with that group, I think it’s time we find a winter hobby.

POTENTIAL ROSTER
Ponds
Dixon
Simon
Owens
Clark
Keita
Roberts
Williams
Trimble

I'll be happy with making the dance (and hopefully winning 1 game) with that lineup. Too many ifs (if Keita takes a big jump forward from freshman year, if Dixon makes up for Ahmed's loss offensively, if Simon develops a good outside shot, if Williams is ready to contribute significantly as a frosh, if Tariq decides to concentrate a bit more on rebounding) to assume more at this point.
