Looking to Next Season

I am still not sure that Tariq testing the waters next year is only an attempt to get more shots somewhere else. We won't know for sure until we see what he does.

Social media can reveal a lot...I'm actually surprised so many people dismiss it and act like an 18-21 yr old is 8 yrs old. Yes, sometimes reading too much into their posts is silly, but in some instances what they post is quite literal. They are adults by law. That being said, after Clark posted he's committed to us, Ponds posted a picture from midnight madness in his SJ jersey. Would think that bodes well for him coming back next year at least.

I should have added I love Maher too.
What a coincidence !!! I love me toooooo !!!! :)
As much as you love lobster rolls and Pale Ales? If that's even possible;)

Looking forward to see if we can learn to defend against the 3 next season. Otherwise, the D improved substantially from the prior year. Some BIGS will help grab some rebounds and maybe, just maybe box out.

At the risk of being labeled ‘panglossian’, I can make a (decent, even if ‘eh case) that St. John’s may be better next season than many on this Board think.
Our Core 3 may all improve from 2017-18 production levels.
Ponds may be stronger, totally healed, have worked out shooting kinks, and will no doubt be determined to show his mettle to NBA evaluators.
Simon may work in the off season to improve both his FT and FG % and his ‘finishing skills’ driving to the hoops.
Clark may blossom, confident in his shot, and honing it.
Messrs Dixon, Keita, Williams, Roberts, Diakite may contribute more than we think with their skills and athleticism.
And, we could be a ‘beast’ in the Conference next year IF we can get at least 1 and, ideally, 2 BE-capable Big guys to join us for the hunt.
Just sayin’.

I've been an editor for 23 or so years and I don't recall ever seeing anyone use the word during that time. I may have seen it used once as a kid.

Had to Google "panglossian", lol. Have to agree with you. I too, am an optimist. If I did not think that we will be better next year, I would have to stop being a fan after almost 60 years.

Nice but like the Catholic Church when it struck Saint Catherine ( my Borough Park, Brooklyn elementary school) from the scrolls of sainthood, Webster’s has struck Panglossian from it’s rolls, at least my Webster dictionary app has done so.
Excoriated!
All the best

You are not only an optimist but also a saint because in those 60 years St. John's has been to only one Final Four. We St. John's basketball fans must all be optimistic to keep coming back after the past 25 years but we must also be masochistic and delusional.;)
Sad truth is that if we are not better than three straight losing seasons next year the Chris Mullin OJT experiment will have been the most costly gamble in St. John's basketball history.

Panther2, I suspect even if they don't turn out to be better next year, we'll still be fans, albeit deeply disillusioned ones. I'd give up on my Knicks before my Johnnies. However, I agree there is every reason to be hopeful we are much better next year - just need to go out and get those two big men, the sooner the better.

I'm not hopeful Matt will find a big man who can contribute. Especially after his top target out of Middle Arizona JC was arrested for a DUI on the way to the airport for his official visit.;)

100% need at least 2 solid bigs for next year. We already needed 1 before Owens left. Now that he left we definitely need 2. Sounds like Keita, Diakate, Roberts, etc. are all quite raw. We saw how decent size but raw skill worked out with Joey Delarosa. Also, please no more football players.

I assume the 7 foot soccer player from Guam Matt is looking at would be ok then?

At this point I don't even know if that's a joke or not lol. I'll settle for any 2 or 3 star kid at least 6'8 215+ lbs with any semblance of rebounding skill and a jump hook/soft touch. Are there really none out there who want to come play for us?

Why don’t you just wait & find out who they come up with?

Also, with all your repetitive critiques, you do know Mullin will be back next year and will have to succeed. One would think he knows that. Nothing magical will come from your constant moaning. I personally was never crazy about hiring CM. I find it practical to wait and see how team performs next year. It is clear you would prefer he disappear now, but that’s not happening. If we move on from Mullin, if he bombs next season, so be it. Then perhaps you can give recommendations for new HC to the powers to be who seem to be adept at making bad decisions. :)
