Longwood Game

Is it on Fox1 as I hear? I can't imagine it being on national TV in prime time; maybe Fox2 or espn3. but not Fox1.. Would someone confirm that for me.
Some of you may know I haven't had a TV in my house for a decade and now "attend" most games at the Tilted Kilt. If it is on Fox1 it would be great for me and the Kilt but I can't imagine that it is very good for Fox. Does our contract say they have to show every game? How about at Barclay ctr? Is that now televised as well. The official schedule of 1 week ago doesn't show it.

Just got my answer on Barclay from a previous post.. This will be a fun weekend for SJU fans.
The new connection with Fox is a dream come true. It is very far from the early days of the BE when I would be out in the snow in the car finding a field or mountain where the antenna could pick up a game from Pittsburgh or DC on an almost nightly basis.
ESPN improved things greatly but this is now heaven. National TV for a game with Longwood is a new one for the books. It's great. Thank you Fox.

Some posters are complaining about fox. But, I'm happy as a clam being able to watch the games. especially since I live in Fl.

I don't care if we win by 1 or 50, I just hope we see this team gel, some roles start to become more clear, the defenive rotations more crisp, get Sanchez, Sampson, and Obekpa more touches down low, and a comfortable Jordan out there.

As always, I am really hoping they start to press.

If it was up to marillac what press would we use.

Someone released the game review to WikiLeaks. It will be on www.bigeastboards.com on Weds but redmen.com readers get to see it here first.

“Long Wood” – That’s What She Said!

RECAP: Sometimes the (Willie) glass is a Styrofoam cup - with a lid. No telling what is in there. The Mitsubishi Lancers of Longwood brought their brand of chuck the orange bouncy ball into the peach-basket to Carny Arena tonight. “Longwood on the hardwood” has a nice jingle to it. Coach Lav fought through the smoke, tears and suspensions (and Gene Keady’s aftershave) to give the Johnny faithful a less than assuring glimpse at the future with a no guard / no assist line-up. Lavin’s brand of hoops can be CLEV’R ©.

The announcers were Bill Raftery and some other guy who reminded me of young Ed Koch.. What I really want to know is how does Raf color his hair to that perfect shade of sterling silver? Their garrulous banter and colorful vignettes were like banjo duets at the opera. They spent an appropriate amount of dissertatio dissectus on the subjects of: prescribed time recovering from surgery (I say 3-5 days), grieving in the 21st century (a full week), and supper clubs in Queens when your spouse is an aspiring Hollywood hottie… (there are none).

Weird moment: I was in my loungewear in the basement watching the game evolve on my trusty 13” B&W Westinghouse when at minute 12.35 I noticed the banners in Carnal Arena definitely flutter. Mother - at that exact moment - was using the microwave upstairs to warm some milk for my Ovaltine & ____ mix. Electrical interference? More likely it was Hooper and Branch escaping through an open window at Carne Asada Arena to join the traveling revue “Oscar & Felix: The Early Years”. (Note to self, find out who was Tony Randall’s stylist?).

To the game itself: like Dick Cheney we’ve shot better and we’ve shot worse. If we believe the CLEV’R © Coach, this is all a build up to February. Note that Coach does not reveal which February and it could it be a leap year. To his credit, Lav kept the Lancers on edge all evening by calling time-outs every 99 seconds in the first half and used exactly zero in the second half. Pointer and Sanchez, or as I call them “Point” and “Sanch” dribbled the ball exact 3.3 seconds on each possession. During a time-out I noticed Coach L writing 3.3 on the clipboard and nodding his head with approval. He has great hair.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE: I am concerned that if God’sgift’s parents were atheists then our man on a ten year plan would be Lil’Lucifer and the Vincentians would be in uproar. Furthermore, six-6-six would not fit on his jersey but I could still pull that fake sneeze routine. Always gets a chuckle in my house. Frenchie “Bogart” missed a 3 and I noted Lav mouthing “That was Eiffel” as he made him sit on the floor behind the bench near a pile of Looey’s old sweaters. D’Angelo “Dundee” Harrison got some new ink; a bunch of Xs and O’s resembling one of Lav’s ill-conceived plays. Obekpa now has more goaltends than points and Sampson was his usually happy go lucky smiling self, fouling out after 2 minutes. Like the old adage “you can take a horse to water but you can’t make him swim”.

NOTES: I am currently translating Mitchell van Hoostrung’s three part journal “Steps To Rid the World of Anthrax” but something about the chapter on Louis Pasteur suggests MvH had an ulterior motive. The crowd at Carnage Arena was the usual mix of alumni, students, parents and fans. Some came by car, some by bus and judging by the noise (or lack thereof, a few came by hearse. I tried to see if any of the cheer squad had a decent rack but my Ovaltine tonic was kicking in… If anyone has any early 1980's VHS tapes of Hulk Hogan, send me a PM. Up next, Penn State.

Free burritos for the first 250 people to the arena. That is one hell of a promotion. I can imagine 250 burritos being hurled onto the court. If I was in college still I would be lined up hours ahead of time for a free dinner.

I can imagine the bathroom line after downing those burritos.

Three things I want to happen tonight:

1. I want to see the bath worked inside periodically, and see us get some buckets by posting up Sampson/Sanchez/Obekpa

2. I want to see Jordan out there and maybe come out with a chip on his shoulder because he was suspended. Who knows maybe he comes back tonight feeling like hes got something to prove and has a breakout game.

3. Win!

I hope the bath works inside so we do not have to use buckets of water. I know we are a little behind the times at SJ but we stopped using the out house at the Lewis Ave campus. :)
