LJ to Transfer

Parent and all players definitely super concerned and reaching out for answers. Wonder who they are turning to, and who is trying to trying to keep the ship afloat. That will tell you something.

Of course they would talk to St. Jean. It is obvious that a lot of people like him and that he is a smart guy. I am pretty sure that they are talking to Simon and Clark as well for advice.

I’m sure before it’s said and done every scholarship player, most walk-on, and half the team managers will be in the transfer pool.

Next year was always going to be somewhere between mediocre and tragic as soon as Ponds left.

Best to go through the list, get the head coach you want and let his first job be re-recruiting the players he wants to retain.

I would make LJ a priority as he has the heart of a lion and can finish around the basket.

Thank you RSR2 and I agree with LJ ( an obvious move to reach out to him)
but some here are sooo pessimistic even though they wanted CM to leave -
if and when CM would leave there would be exactly what is - a transition
what could anyone expect?
a magic cure?

I get the cynicism and pessimism after decades of frustration BUT
how about we give this new AD a chance and stop pre judging

I trust Mike Cragg and the power brokers and $$$ makers and shakers - who are working behind the scenes right now as we post - to have already given thought to which coaches (plural) to hire and which players (plural) to reach out to - it would be common courtesy and of great selfish/practical sense to treat LJ and his teammates and Mack and others who had considered SJU - to speak to all involved in this - transition

I hear the lyrics -
Give me just a little more time
And our love (program) will surely grow
Chairmen of the Board

Next rumor will be that our walk-one are entering the transfer portal.

That would mark the death knell of the program. :silly:

I thought Shamorie Ponds was the most fun I could have watching a St. John’s basketball player. Then low and behold LJ came around just a year later. I think there was a play in each and every game where LJ made me say to myself, ‘wow we are so lucky to have him.’

Whomever it is that takes the job I hope you consider staying at sju, you've absolutely been a pleasure to watch. But truth is, even if you transfererred to cuse or puke or my most hated rival, I could still do nothing but cheer for you. That’s the type of player you proved to be.

Honestly, and I know you are one who will wait, regardless of what proverbial side anyone is on, there isn’t a right or wrong decision made yet. Give it a few days. Let him make the hire. Then heap praise or throw blame which ever way. Waiting a few days doesn’t bother. This is long term big picture.

I am a ST John's basketball fan and I have seen shit shows. This looks like a shit show. No?
Listen when Norm took over we understood why we were in this position. With Mullin there was hope, even if it was nostalgic misguided hope. I think Cluess is best available / realistic candidate but...…..WOW

I guess I was wrong and you won’t wait. Zero chance in your mind mullin made the final decision to walk away? When we have our new coach then I will determine how I think this all played out for SJU.

I think we'll be fine so long as the new coach is able to lure Russell Robinson back to NYC.

I hope more than ever Hurley gets the job so I could throw something like this back in your face. But then I remember it won't matter. You still won't like the coach.

Right. That style of play would really benefit him and allow him a great showcase of his game.

This is exactly why some of us were so concerned about expediting the process - the prospect of quality players like LJ and Heron considering a transfer.

However, entering the transfer portal doesn’t mean you can’t exit it as well.

I know that two very good USC football players entered and exited the portal after some time in it.

qcr, I'm not too concerned about effect of small delay on existing players. Simon & Trimble are gone, Figgy, Williams & Roberts have all indicated they will wait to see who new coach is and Heron is deciding between going pro and staying and he has time to make that decision. Also doubt any of sit out transfers will leave. I'm more concerned about delay causing us to miss out on grad or JC transfers we could otherwise be recruiting hard. Really so important that we get coach decision right, I can live with that.
