LJ in Transfer Portal?

I liked LJ a lot and this is very disappointing. I still hope he comes back even though its very doubtful.
I trust CMA and the staff very much. Unfortunately it's the state of college basketball today. We have to expect this every year. Hopefully we can pick up a good player who will fit into our system of play. Good Luck LJ

SJU had to turn down two good NYC players in Perez and Salnave, in hopes of LJ's return. I don't see how he could get an immediate waiver unless he transferred closer to home in Massachusetts.

LJ Figueroa told coach Mike Anderson today he wanted to enter the portal and explore his options, per a source. Source said it's uncertain if St. John's would take him back now. #sjubb

Has a player ever entered the transfer portal twice in 2 years and returned to the same school?

Statistically he was a bad basketball player last year. This year he was going to be a 23 year old senior focused on his last shot at a decent pro-contract. This is addition by subtraction.

Based on BT's tweet there was something else going on between the staff and the player about "buy in". That said, LJ has put the team in a bad spot. He could have told the staff a moth ago he had no intention of coming back and the team could have planned accordingly. It looks almost spiteful at this point.

If you still have to think if you want to be here, you know you really don't
As much as I hate to say it, if I'm CMA, I say good bye and good luck

Its all about playing time. Figgy wants to play 35 minutes a game and get his scoring average up.

Thats not happening here. Like in the 1st butler game, figgy was cold, he sat on the bench the whole 2nd half.

Figgy is selfishly trying to enhance his prospects of a pro career while st johns is concerned with team play.

Its that simple.

St. John's will be open to filling the last open scholarship, but doesn't feel a need to, per source. #sjubb
And I'm okay with this:

PG Dunn
SG Williams
PF: Champ
C: Toro
SF: Cole
Ive got:

Posh
Cole
Champaignie
Earlington
Moore

L J was excellent in support of Ponds. He is not a go to player and our guys will be better off if he is not around to provide lacking sr leadership

Would think if grad transfer who can provide a little offense becomes available we'd jump, otherwise save it for next year.

LJ might not want to be pressing every second he is out there. Maybe that gasses him on the offensive end where he really needs to showcase to get to the next level.

St Johns style of play might not be best for LJs pro chances.

I really do not think anyone is in the wrong here. The team is not changing their philosophy to suit LJ and LJ is not willing to sacrifice and maybe have his pro career in jeopardy.

The pool is a bit thin at this point

With LJ likely leaving, the team has lost 4 steals a game (including the 2 with Rutherford's graduation). For a team that relies a big part on defense for their offense, that's where losing LJ will likely hurt us. OTOH, this will give more minutes to players like Cole that can be more efficient scorers than LJ.

Maybe it’s just me never liked his game would not consider him a premiere player
anyone is expendable. Do not go for the idea that out style of play was to taxing for him.Think Cole will make up his loss
Thought he should have come back and played better so to improve his chances at next level
What team will he go to that he doesn’t have to run lo.

I think the more frustrating part is that he waited when it looked like we had a good chance to land Salnave and then had to turn him down. Not sure what kind of player Salnave would have been, but it is better than having an open roster spot.
