LJ in Transfer Portal?
1997-1998 Big East finished with 3 teams in final Top Ten (Johnnies, UConn & Miami) and two others, Nova and Syracuse, with 21 wins. Hard to beat that although there were some doormats in that league.
That was 98-99. And Moose said 2010-11 had a record 11 teams.

The 2008-09 season had "only" 7 teams. But that year the BE had 3 number 1 seeds (Pitt, UCONN and Louisville). Matched last year, 2018-19, by ACC (UNC, Duke and Virginia) 2 other teams, Villanov and Syracuse were 3 seeds. Do the math, that means the committee thought 3 of the 4 best teams, and 5 of the 12 best teams in the country were in ONE conference. 4 of the 7 made the FInal 8, Louisville, UCONN, Pitt and Villanova with Pitt and Nova playing each other. UCONN and Nova made the Final 4. This BE is not as good as that. Sorry.

Sucks but I’d be happy if we ever got a late transfer but doesn’t take away from the fact that let’s just say it’s not cool this Kate for a kid to suit the team which in essence is what he is doing. Blah blah blah I’m sure I’ve had a post in my last 10000” happy a player was considering is this late in the game it’s nonsense . There needs to be a hard date about transferring or well I guess there is thst new rule potentially I can’t even remember my

I'm guessing your recycling will be full tomorrow.
LJ maxed out and I think he and the staff knew that. His role would have been very different this coming year. He wasn't going to be showcased or guaranteed anything. I don't need guys hoisting bad shots anymore...that was the Mullin era. Give me guys like Earlington and Julian. They play within the framework of the team are still developing their games.

Everybody appears ready to move on.
Excellent post. Could not agree more.

Is UConn shopping for players? They don't officially become a member until July 1, so technically he'd be transferring to a different conference.

LJ's responsible for this which on paper is a setback for SJU. Who the hell knows. He may wind up with the 2021 National Championship and pay a key role. Great persona decision for him as a player but not as a man. ,
We've- all -I know I have--made woeful decisions in our 20s. So, it's time to move on and hope we can get a solid piece this late and root like hell.
And who knows. We may not miss him as Vince Cole, Isaih Moore, Greg Williams, and Dylan Wusu step up in the SF slot.

How is it funny what I said? This program has been nothing but climbing the ladder every few yrs then being knocked down to the first step again. Every time. CMA’s 1st yr was promising and we realistically could’ve been ready to really compete for tourney in a wide open Big East. Now we will likely have to wait another yr at least and we lose one of the only players that could make 3’s. If Cole and Champ aren’t making 3’s at high clip we are in big trouble. Hope I’m wrong but this is likely now another yr near or in the cellar. I said I wanted Salnave at the time...our staff should’ve known...or LJ was being a snake.

It’s funny because every time anything happens to this program that is a negative you come in with the same Sky is falling routine.

I liked LJ. Sometimes. He was my favorite player 2 years ago. But last year, in a bigger role, I often hated his game. Let’s not act like replacing 14 ppg on 37% shooting is an impossible task that will set the program back.

We didn’t lose Myles Powell here. We lost a nice piece to our team. I was always under the assumption he wasn’t coming back, because I heard on campus all year that he wanted to make it his last year.

I saw promising things from guys like Greg W, Earlington, Dunn, JC, etc down the stretch last year. I believe in the personnel Mike A is bringing in.

On top of all of this, I’m still not even sure there’s going to be a season this year.

So freaking out about all of this and acting like it puts a huge dent in the program to me is extremely premature. As always, you assume the worst and I get it that’s how you are.

I just don’t know what I’m gonna miss about figgy. Gun to my head id say I’ll miss his defense. But jeez he was in foul trouble literally every other game it felt like. He struggled to defend without fouling, he shot at a poor clip, he was erratic at the free throw line which was frustrating cause he would get to the free throw line a good amount, and his shot selection was piss poor to say the least.

Are we better WITH fig? Yea, sure. But replacing him is not some impossible task in my opinion that should set the program back.

I know anything's possible next season, but i feel like loosing LJ may be the difference between us being a NCAA Tourney team, and having season much like last season. Glad we know where things stand now, and can move forward accordingly, but don't see how anyone can think this won't hurt us.

I honestly never thought much of LJ as a player. I'm sure we can find a lot of 37% volume scorers out there if we really wanted to. He was the most overrated player we've had in a long time in my opinion. He was a good 4th wheel to Ponds, Simon and Clark, but laughable as a top player on a Big East caliber team.

We should have taken a hint on the day everyone was celebrating his supposed return that he posted as picture on his IG story of him Sears, Steer, and Justin Cole (all guys who were not going to be with the squad next year). The way he handled himself during this process was as boneheaded as his play on the court, which I didn't think was possible, but I digress...

I'm not thrilled with CMA and staff on this one. If he wasn't sure if LJ would be back he should have gone harder on Perez, and should have signed Salnave if LJ refused to commit for next season. Now he's caught with his pants down. Even though I don't think losing LJ will hurt the team much, we still lost out on at least two other good pieces because LJ and his snake advisor, Alex Arias, basically screwed us as CMA stood idly by.

I'm still on board with CMA and will be vehemently rooting for his success, but if we have an underwhelming season next year coupled with no top recruits in 2021, he'll be trekking on the same road as his predecessors. I know his Arkansas groupies, and delusional posters who loved Mullin until they didn't, will come to his defense and make up every excuse in the book, but this isn't a good sign...

Here's hoping this is just a blip on the radar and not a sign of things to come.

I am not shocked or disappointed by this development. He was going to be no better if not worse than last year in terms of leadership and attitude. Had to be benched a few times for some lazy and selfish plays.
We don't need players with an attitude to serve as a poor influence with a large group of new players.
My gut tells me we now can close very quickly on a transfer target as this staff seems to always have alternatives on their list.
As I've stated many times I don't think LJ is a leader or an NBA level talent. Shamorie was twice the talent and he will have to toil for quite a while to make a team.
It's May and no we have something to speculate about in the next few weeks. The least of which is whether St. John's has the organizational and planning ability to open the school with adequate testing, clearances and protections that Creighton has already addressed. Of all the Big East schools we always seem to be behind in the curve. From talking to parents whose kids go there it seems like they are keeping everyone in the dark which could cost them in a host of ways.

LJ was a chucker, not a shooter, and the floater stunk.
Coles is a better shooter.

LJ should go some place where he's the 3rd or 4th option on the team.

It sucks, but I've already moved on. I was fearful for a long while that we might lose Williams, but with Cole at SF, Williams will get a ton of time. And I'm happy the clock starts sooner on Wusu.

Just have to hope Roberts is 100 percent ready. I thought we might be able to get away with redshirting him if recovery was slow going with some really small ball in spurts, but LJ was a major part of that plan for me.

I am not shocked that LJ decided not to return. I feel confident that CMA will field a competitive team despite this season. Salnave would have been a good role player for us but that is in the past now. Hopefully we can all attend games. If that happens I will call this season a success.

You don’t know what conversations occurred between LJ and CMA

By all accounts CMA is a hands on coach who is in daily contact with his players.

In my mind it is just as likely that LJ double crossed CMA as it is that CMA naively failed to ask LJ if he would return to StJ’s.

This peeves me even more as he’s apparently been shopping himself around. Shameful.
I had that thought this morning after reading through this thread, and because of the timing of this. Seems likely teams got in his ear, so he's already aware of potential destinations he could "upgrade" to. Just shady all around.
