LJ in Transfer Portal?

I have been feeling great about things but......It’s always something.

Kid gets tons of minutes. He has incoming help. Team plays a style that will benefit his style of play. But...

I just don’t get it.

This is a big, OUCH!

He looked miserable last year. CMA yanked him quite a bit after taking bad shots or missing assignments.

At St John's, LJ can be "the man" on a team that could go to the NCAA's
If he looks to go to a more successful program, he won't be "the man" anymore
He'll be the second, third or fourth option on such a team
I don't see how that enhances his chances of getting drafted next year
It would not behoove LJ to transfer IMO

At SJU the shoe is always about to drop. And here it is.

I was hammering on and on about how LJ situation could leave SJU in a tough position the longer he waits. All along it was him waiting out the 'draft process' even though we all talked about how he never had a chance to get drafted. Never did I think he would go into the portal for a 2ND time!

He was not a CMA recruit, thats the bottom line. Now its June and our 'leading scorer' with all his warts is gone. Besides Salnave we were quiet on recent names out there. Can't help but wonder where the wheels came off here and if we were caught off guard.

I don’t disagree. However, there were plenty of times he deserved to be taken out of games. His “floater” was usually a poor shot. I would pull my hair out on some of those shots. He is a much better shooter in rhythm.Pulling guys out of games is part of coaching players. In any case, Anderson clearly went back to LJ and never buried him on the bench. If that’s the beef then he is revealing something negative about his Coach ability.

If LJ (aka Lionel) goes to a top rated program, he will never be given the long leash that he had at St John's. The first 30 foot bomb he takes or the first folly floater off the wrong foot that doesn't go in would put him square at the end of the bench. Believe it or not, I think we can potentially have better "TEAM" chemistry without him.

Very frustrating, especially the timing. Will be interesting to hear CMA's take on this one.

Sitting out makes zero sense unless I missed something on his credit accumulation

I am not trying to kill LJ here. I also don’t disagree with what you said. Seems to me LJ was given lots of room. I guess that’s why I am struggling to understand why he wants to leave. He is clearly talented. It’s unfortunate in my opinion. No doubt we will miss him but life goes on.

This Program would make an excellent Netflix documentary.

There must be more to this than meets the eye. LJ already was being written about as All Big East player next year and unless he qualifies as grad transfer, which I kind of doubt. he'll have to sit.
Listening to someone in Nebraska?

LJ should do what he believes are in his best interests.

CMA should do what he believes are in his team's best interest.

Yes I was thinking the same. If he's going to sit out a year, why not just go play pro overseas now? Is it possible he's eligible to play immediately? Does the year he spent at Odessa College count as a first year?
