We can't take everything.
1. When we leave and how much.
2. The name
3. MSG
Three things on the table. We cannot win them all. So we need to think about what we REALLY need. To me its 1 and 3. I don't care about the name. Let them keep the name. Let it lower our exit fee and keep them away from MSG (least worry since I think MSG wants us more than them)

We have to have MSG and I'd prefer to keep the name. If we threaten to stay for two more years, we may actually get all three (they don't want us for two more years, so they would potentially give in and let us go early without penalty).
The Catholic 7 should get the Big East name and a good split of all the exit fees from the teams that destroyed this conference. UConn and Cincy both helped in the downfall of the league and should not benefit.

How did UCONN and Cincy add to the downfall. They reacted to the demise from the thieving ACC and the colaborators Pitt and Cuse. Once the league splintered they did what they could to protect themselves. They deserve their share as they are NOT leaving the Big East. At least not yet.

Yukon is still in the Big East because nobody wanted them. They have been begging for an ACC invite.

They have no problem keeping us around. We are the anxious ones. Granted they will also love us to leave early but it will cost. Just like the name will cost. Have weigh that and ask is it worth it?

I look at it as we're in their way and preventing them from moving on as a league (hard to make commitments on dates to new members with this thing lingering, and they clearly need to move to find teams that help replace the gap that we will leave). As for cost, I don't know enough about the specifics and whether it truly is a cost or a reduction in the exit fees we will collect. I would think we have some negotiating room on the money. I would fight for the name up to some level of financial impact and see if we get them to bite.

I think that if a “group” (don’t know the #) of Schools leave together to form a “new” league (as opposed to defecting to an existing league) there is no exit fee at all.
I think the money fight is whether the departing bb schools should share in the money the former fb schools are paying/have paid to leave or paid to settle the lawsuit and leave on an accelerated basis.
The play I hear is the departing bb schools are willing to sacrifice getting some of the other exit fee $ in exchange for: (a) leaving early and (b) the name, with the emphasis on the name. Sort of comes down to “bying” the name.
When Arthur Anderson the big accounting giant, split between the “Audit” and “Consulting” partners, there was a fierce battle fought over the AA name and the consulting partners lost and the audit partners paid a lot for the brand name. Well flash forward a bunch of years later and the Enron scandal brought down AA in flames, and the former consulting partners were happier than hell, that they did not have the AA name but had morphed into Accenture. Imagine fighting hard for something that years later was the biggest negative in business.
SO I am not so sure that we should give them much for the name.

An excellent observation.

The Original Big East had a great 30 year run. It's over and done with.
Time for a new name.
