Lavin on WFAN today

I thought we choked towards the end.

Just my personal opinion. We are so f'icking close to being real good.

I can see it like we all saw it Lavins's 1st year. So f'ing close. We just need to put the pieces together. I'm not sure we can to get over the major hump. I don't know. Granted I have only seen 2 games in person this year but things like Branch I think we are better when he is on the court but stat wise I might be wrong.

I'm so pissed right now. We had this game. I f-cking hate their fans

It was a combo of Fair and Ennis making the plays down the stretch while we reverted to some real questionable play. We probably played them as tough as anybody so far this year.

The next test is how we respond Wednesday and against Youngstown and Columbia. The first four BE games with three on the road and 'nova at MSG will give us a better ides of how we'll be.

I hate to say it, because we are on the road, but we have to win the conference opener at Xavier, IMO. All the pressure on us in that game (unusual for a road team). Xavier starts with three straight at home, and so they could recover quickly from a loss. Meanwhile, if we lose that came, we are likely looking at an 0-3 Big East start. Heck, even if we win that game, I still think we are looking at 1-2, but it would be a "good" 1-2 (if there is such a thing), with a chance to do some damage immediately after that.

Would take a Fordham-type effort to beat Xavier on the road. Especially their first ever BE conference game.

I do not see that happening.

I agree that the Xavier game is very important but I don't think the next two games are walkovers for our opponents. It will be interesting to see how they play on the road in hostile environments.

Lavin excels in the TV/Radio media.. He is a great interview and has a charismatic personality..I'm sure he returns to the booth at some point in the future, probably based on the west coast.

Unless a miracle happens, I don't see him getting a BIGGER Coaching job, after us..Too many people in the BB World have him figured out as a limited Coach with not much adaptability on the sidelines during the heat of the game. And, we seem to have stopped hearing the nonsense of this edition being the most talented team in the BE. Thankfully. Until its' shown on the Court.. We're waiting.

I'm disappointed he thinks the peak of this team is next year..Does he think he will have all his players back, excepting GG and Sanchez? No, saying next year is not what we want to hear this year. It means he's waffling on his team and players. MANANA, is not for Coaches because for many of them, it never comes.

You are disapponted that he he thinks our JUNIOR core will peak next year as seniors? GG is the fourt big man on the depth chart and was neck and neck with Jones for minutes in Europe. Jones will fill that "void" just fine. According to draftexpress, none of our players will be drafted in the first or second round in th 2014 draft. That means, assuming no D-Leaugue defections or transfers, we return our entire roster besides our fourth big man and Sanchez. Sanchez is obviously a tough loss, but everyone else will be stronger, more experienced, and better. Oh, and our top 25 PG will make that huge freshman to soph transition.

I think westchesterjoe is concerned that Lavin might be hedging this year. There was a lot of high hopes and optimism heading into this season and while there are a ton of basketball games to be played, St. John's did not perform well in their OOC schedule (losses to Wisconsin, Penn Sate, and Syracuse will not help come Tournament time). Considering this team is full of upperclassmen now (Branch, Harrison, Greene, Pointer, Sanchez, God's Gift), this should not be a .500 basketball team any longer.

Now again, there is a ton of basketball left to be played (18 conference games alone). This team has more than enough ability to win 11 or 12 of them. But as a fan, you don't exactly want to hear that next year will be their 'peak' year. I'm sure if you asked anybody on this board, nobody would sign up for 1 tournament appearance every 4 years. In my opinion, that is unacceptable for a coach who is making one hell of a nice salary. That fact of the matter is that this year and next year should be tournament years. Anything less and I think Lavin has significantly underperformed as HC.

They're not, but:

1. Georgetown under JT3 has always been a bad matchup for us.

and

2. I can't pick Villanova to lose to anybody in this league right now.

Of course those teams could always get stung, but I can't go there at this point.
