Lavin on WFAN today

It will do the same as the Boomer & Carton show and most likely stay in the CBS family on the new CBS radio network

Coached a great game today.
Sat Greene, went with Jordan, switched to zone.
Cooney couldn't breathe.
We make free throws, we win.

Agreed.

Team looks clueless in a half court offense though, needs to be worked on.

We watched a different game.
We outscored them in the paint.
Lots of good looks inside looks.
If Sampson doesn't sit half of the 2nd half..............
When we went up 2, I really thought syracuse was dead.
Those missed free throws were brutal.
Lavin gets an A today.

Did we really outscore them in the paint? Maybe counting our fast break layups but not in the half court I dont think. We also made our big run with Sampson on the bench for the majority of it. Sanches finishes that 3 point play and I think were getting some votes tomorrow. Gotta bounce back and head into big east play at 9-3. Have a chance for 10 ooc wins still. Need every single one of them.

We shot 77% from the line. Only guys who missed more than 1 shot were Karr (0-2) and Harrison (8-10)

Was very impressed with Jordan at the line. (I think he made 7 in a row in a key stretch).

I meant crunch time.

That's fine but so many other areas to point at. Yeah Karr missed 2 at a crucial point. Sanchez missed one to cap a 3 pt play. 3 point shooting is an area for starters. The fact they seemed scared to penetrate when Dee and Sheed clearly can hit their FT's. The missed bunnies in the first half that could have swung a 12 pt deficit to say 7 and the comeback wouldn't have been so bad.

Couldn't agree more with all of your points...

+1

I thought we choked towards the end.

Just my personal opinion. We are so f'icking close to being real good.

I can see it like we all saw it Lavins's 1st year. So f'ing close. We just need to put the pieces together. I'm not sure we can to get over the major hump. I don't know. Granted I have only seen 2 games in person this year but things like Branch I think we are better when he is on the court but stat wise I might be wrong.

I'm so pissed right now. We had this game. I f-cking hate their fans

Great game? We haven't hit from three all year, so his team launches 15 of them and hits one? Something is wrong with this picture.

Syracuse was almost as brutal from beyond the arc. This was a typical old style BE game, not pretty but physical with tough defense. You're right about the three point shooting.

No team in the NCAA shoots 80% from the foul line. If we hadn't missed a few at the end we would've missed them early, and Jordan wouldn't have been 9-9.
It's the law of averages. Did we miss foul shots at the end? Yes. But I don't see that as a cause for the loss because to expect perfection from the foul line is ridiculous.

Statistically we're shooting better from the line than we did last year. For that I think the players and staff deserve credit.

It was a combo of Fair and Ennis making the plays down the stretch while we reverted to some real questionable play. We probably played them as tough as anybody so far this year.

The next test is how we respond Wednesday and against Youngstown and Columbia. The first four BE games with three on the road and 'nova at MSG will give us a better ides of how we'll be.

I thought we were well prepared against the zone. We really tried to screen the top and get penetration. We looked for the baseline. We looked for the high low. Execution is a different story. We needed to make more shots but we didn't. We wont play a better zone all year.

I hate to say it, because we are on the road, but we have to win the conference opener at Xavier, IMO. All the pressure on us in that game (unusual for a road team). Xavier starts with three straight at home, and so they could recover quickly from a loss. Meanwhile, if we lose that game, we are likely looking at an 0-3 Big East start. Heck, even if we win that game, I still think we are looking at 1-2, but it would be a "good" 1-2 (if there is such a thing), with a chance to do some damage immediately after that.
