REMINDER: @SJUCoachLavin will be on at 2 pm today w/ @MikeFrancesaYES on @WFAN660 to talk #SJUBB. Unfortunately @JMinkoWFAN has the day off!

I hope Lavin has an opinion on the Yankees signing of McCann and Beltran.

Forget that, the first thing Fatso will ask Lavin is "So, Coach, how do you feel about the way A-Rod is being treated by that coward, Bud Selig?"

By the way, Fatso just came on and never announced Lavin as a guest today, although he did announce other guests.

It's hard to believe that Francesa and Howard Stern will both be 60 in a few months. Francesa talks like he is 80 and Stern 30.

I thought it was a very good interview.
Coach talked sports and went at it as hard as he can.
Nothing got by him (as you would know, if you turned it on and tried him).

Steve stated he felt the three would improve, numbers wise, but the Johnnie's are not going to rely on it.
Defense and turnovers are the focus with the three, when available. See's the team as an NCAA team
and feels he is a year ahead of schedule on the rebuilding.
Good interview as usual.

Lavin excels in the TV/Radio media.. He is a great interview and has a charismatic personality..I'm sure he returns to the booth at some point in the future, probably based on the west coast.

Unless a miracle happens, I don't see him getting a BIGGER Coaching job, after us..Too many people in the BB World have him figured out as a limited Coach with not much adaptability on the sidelines during the heat of the game. And, we seem to have stopped hearing the nonsense of this edition being the most talented team in the BE. Thankfully. Until its' shown on the Court.. We're waiting.

I'm disappointed he thinks the peak of this team is next year..Does he think he will have all his players back, excepting GG and Sanchez? No, saying next year is not what we want to hear this year. It means he's waffling on his team and players. MANANA, is not for Coaches because for many of them, it never comes.

You are disapponted that he he thinks our JUNIOR core will peak next year as seniors? GG is the fourt big man on the depth chart and was neck and neck with Jones for minutes in Europe. Jones will fill that "void" just fine. According to draftexpress, none of our players will be drafted in the first or second round in th 2014 draft. That means, assuming no D-Leaugue defections or transfers, we return our entire roster besides our fourth big man and Sanchez. Sanchez is obviously a tough loss, but everyone else will be stronger, more experienced, and better. Oh, and our top 25 PG will make that huge freshman to soph transition.

Very insightful! Our seniors will peak as seniors. I hope you are correct and they all return.
But 2016 then looks like a rebuilding year not a reloading year.

From my standpoint this is the year he needs to produce. They need practice, plays to run and luck

It's not just our juniors that will be peaking when next season comes around. We effectively have three guys playing starters-type minutes (who also have started games this year) that are either a frosh or soph. Of course they will be better next season.

Let's worry about 2016 when we get there. Two of our current redshirts have ties to elite players they will now be able to play with for an extra season. There is also the JUCO circuit and ever-expanding transfer pool to draw from to adda veteran. Let's also not put all of our guys in the NBA early. It is not as easy as our fans make it out to be after getting burned by Moe Harkless.

I agree. We have depth and exp. Have to produce. Don't have to make the sweet 16. But should make the tourney, anything less would be a dissapointment and call for concern w our talent.

Lavin missed his calling, he should have been a politician with his gift of gab. He has to have some Irish blood in him. But at the end of the day New Yorkers will see right thru him if he cannot produce. Personally I am routing for him to put us back on the national landscape of college basketball.

I believe Lavin is an Irish last name...

SJU fans always leave me shaking my head. We are 4-1 with a chance to be 6-1 (which I fully expect) by the end of this week--after three games against power conference teams. Coach Lavin for the first time is playing with a player he recruited in their third season with him. He doesn't have a single senior that has been with him for the full four seasons. Almost all programs need that kind of returning player to bring the experience, strength, and skill that you need to add to the young guns. I'm too young to remember, but wasn't there a guard--David Cain maybe?--who did very little for three season and then produced a great senior season out of nowhere? That stuff happens every season in every conference. There are dozens of guys who have averages like 2 ppg as a frosh, 4.5 as a soph, and 16 as a junior. Khalif Wyatt of Temple only averaged .5 ppg as a frosh, 10 as a soph, and 17 as a junior, and 20.5 as a senior. We are convinced every kid is going to go to the NBA early, but at the same time threads pop up questioning Lavin's recruiting ability and one even asking if Roberts was a better talent evaluator. How the eff can both of those things be true? How can our roster be barren the next two years because everyone was drafted into the NBA, but, at the same time, Lavin be a terrible recruiter?

Can we just give this coach until March? I'm not even asking to let his first class of players reach their senior year. Just give the man until march. We've lost one damn game to a 7-0 top ten team 2,000 miles away. That game was within four points very late.

I believe most of us on this board would agree with you Marillac, I guess the drought has been so long and so deep that we have grown impatient and want results immediately. As mentioned earlier, I am in support of Lavin 100 percent!

Love your post Marillac. I'm sitting back and enjoying this season. All the ups and downs of it. I've been rooting like crazy for this team the last 20 years.... I'm not turning my back on them now. We've been through too many lousy seasons to be all upset that we aren't quite the finely tuned machine we want to be right now... Heck, as long as Lavin keeps recruiting well, I could completely tolerate a lousy season this year. We've were in a far worse position just recently. I'm happy we're relevant again in recruits eyes... just have to get it a little more together on the court. I can be patient.

You make many fair points but many here prefer to place the blame on the kids by attacking their IQ or labeling them as one dimensional jumping jacks that are uncoachable. If that were true, then his recruiting would be questionable. I think we lag in player development and that is where I have called out the coaches.
Dollar to donuts if we are not an NCAA team this year those recruits will look elsewhere.
