Lavin Commentary Rutgers Game

Quote of the night from Mrs WASJU as she was walking by after wrestling our son to bed, "Wait, what's he doing there?" Don't know why but the double take as she was walking by and her tone when asking the question summed up my feelings about the situation perfectly.

Just seemed very awkward that as one of his first assignments as part of the new job, he'd be sent to cover St. John's. What made it even more awkward was that it almost seemed like they tried to act like he wasn't the coach here last year when it came to provide commentary on the team.

But, that's the job he signed up for, and that comes along with the territory.

I'm pretty sure he could have bailed on this assignment if he felt awkward about it. It was clear that he didn't. He's better suited for announcing, where he can babble non stop. In 5 seasons, I never felt as though I learned a thing when he opened his mouth. Best of luck to him though. Nothing wrong with having a former coach still feel good about SJU.

Lavin is all class. I spoke to him last night and he was happy to be back, no ill will towards anybody. In his 5 years here he built off of Norm and provided us with a more national profile. We made 2 NCAA tournaments and he was able to get us into some nice tournaments the next two years with Maui and Atlantis. Hopefully Mullin can take us up the next step of the ladder. I have no ill will towards coach and I am not sure why so many people do. He did pretty well for a California guy in NY.

Glad to hear that there appeared to be no evident ill will and that those in attendance treated him well.

Does anyone know whether Lavin spoke to any of his old players (Amar, Christian, Felix) or Mussini who he originally attempted to recruit. I would think Mullin would be more than okay with that.

Lavin retweeted a dozen or so tweets about Felix being reinstated and having a good game. Zags also tweeted this picture:

Why pray tell would Felix have any interest in talking to Lavin?
He lost a year of eligibility because that former coach had a vision one night and entered him into the starting lineup in the middle of his redshirt season.
Then, this fall either Lavin or one of his former staff members called the NCAA to question Felix's high school academics.

There's no reason to drag a good man through the mud, but Lavin wasn't a good man!
He was and is a shyster.

Of course there was no ill will on his part... we paid him millions of dollars to do a professional job, and he gave us an amateur performance. If he got a warm reception from the fans that is just more proof that this is a dead and apathetic fan-base. Villanova or Georgetown fans wouldn't have let him out of the building. Just think about his return to UCLA? Did UCLA fans miss him? Or were they saying good riddance?

Villanova fans warmly welcomed Steve Lappas back just last season, and he did a pretty miserable job there.

They did, and he did Beast. You're right.
But it's been 15 years.
As a Giants fan I might even consider allowing Ray Handley back in the building now. Let bygones be bygones. But if you asked me that in 1993, my answer would've been heck no.

the 2014-15 team wasn't a championship team or anything.. but they were memorable to all of us because we grew to know them for 4 years as starters. There will be a time and place for fans to ease off the Lavin bashing, and appreciate the success he had. But now is way too soon.

But Lappas left Villanova 15 years ago, Lavin left 5 minutes ago. It was incredibly awkward. At least let a year go by. (Preferably much, much more.)

HE GOES WHERE HE IS TOLD

I also thought he looked good tonight and thought his smile was because he was happy we won.

LETS GIVE LAV CREDIT He kept the program progressing and he is a nice person

Please for the love of God

LETS LEAVE GOD OUT OF THIS

Why? It's a thread about Satan.

Goodness. Give the guy a break. The Lavin era is over. He's a decent guy. Let's not call him satan.

It was a joke. (sort of)

But I will say this. Last night, seeing Felix Balamou, two emotions keep running through my mind: (1) shocked --in a good way --that he that kind of tenaciousness and rebounding ability against D1 talent and (2) incredibly sad/angered that Lavin pissed away a year of his eligibility, just so he could let Rysheed Jordan and Jakarr Sampson know who's boss. Not the act of a "decent" guy.

Obviously that move sucked. That's why I didn't say he was a good guy or a great guy. He's just a decent guy. Classy on camera, well spoken, the seniors that just graduated loved him, he's nice to the fans. Not a bright basketball coach, which showed when he cost Felix and year of eligibility (and showed when with the way our teams played over the years), but as a person he seems ok.

I don't know how else to word it. I was for him getting fired. I wanted him gone. But I'm not gonna bash the dude personally. I basically grew up watching that Harrison team through the years. I was 14 when they arrived. I worship those guys. And they don't have a bad thing to say about Lavin as a man, so I'm not gonna bash him either
