Kudos Joel Soriano

I'm wondering where he will wind up in the discussion of best big men to play for St. John's. If we get to the tournament, his stock will rise. For me, without thinking of any exhaustive list, he might be top 5.

Joel Soriano is playing like an All-American
Add this guy to the list of COVID seniors who are flourishing at a high level. One year after he averaged a double-double (15.2 points, 11.9 rebounds), the 6-11 Soriano has taken his game to another level. Leaner, quicker, and more mobile than he was last season, this sturdy veteran has been the latest player to find his calling under Rick Pitino. Soriano is now averaging career-highs in points (18.0), blocks (2.3), and assists (1.8) along with 10.8 rebounds. He had a career-high six blocked shots in Wednesday night’s win over Xavier. Soriano also had never attempted a single three-point shot in the first four years of his career prior to this season, but is currently a blistering 7-9 from long distance in 2023-24. There’s not many interior players in the sport playing better than this guy

Joel’s post passing ability improvement is huge. It is not solely his scoring numbers that matter, but his total touches, inclusive of passes to open shooters. Those could be difference makers and keep everyone alert & happy.

Jenkins plays a different position, but with a little more patience avoiding quick shots, he could also make teammates appreciative, as well as put pressure on opponents defense and give guys a chance for better offensive rebounding position.

Joel improved greatly last year, hence MIP award (kudos to CMA and staff) …but has really ramping it up under RP
