Knicks

So one minute Shams says "Thibs is safe" and 5 minutes later he says "never mind, Thibs is fired?' Great job, Shams.

FWIW I don't know what more they wanted than beat an up-and-coming Detroit team, beat the defending champs, and then throw everything but the kitchen sink at Indy but lose because your roster got exposed. This was not a Thibs problem, this was a roster/matchup problem. This after they basically kneecapped him by sending out three Thibs-type players (Hartenstein (not their fault, CBA), Randle and DeVincenzo) for two softies in Towns and Bridges. Disgraceful.

I am assuming the hire will be Mike Malone - available, won a championship, comes from the Knicks tree. I like Malone. But I don't think there is any guarantee that he (or anyone other than Spoelstra) could have done more with this team than Thibs did.
Agree mostly LFM but I believe Malone was fired in part because he didn’t develop young guys/bench which sounds familiar.

Well I think Chriscin33 is correct that the firing came this quickly because there is already a plan in place. So that means someone who is available and presumably interested. Malone, maybe Jay Wright, who else fits the bill that would be saleable as an "upgrade" from Thibs?

I went into the playoffs assuming that Thibs would get fired (unjustly IMO) if they lost to Detroit or Boston and I figured Malone would be too obvious a fit to say no to as a replacement.

But once they beat Boston I figured he had done enough. I guess not - he was out even before the playoffs began, just nobody told him that.

Rose just fired his friend, which for us fans is a good thing because we know that this front office runs under the motto “it’s not personal, it’s just business.”

They are here to win a championship, and personal feelings cannot get in the way.

Remember how many years the Knicks have been run by an incompetent fraternity, who were never held accountable.

That is over now.

Except that this move is the definition of incompetence.

If Jay is interested gobble him up. With Malone he always had a great relationship with Jokic maybe they think he could work well with KAT.

Tough to put this situation into words. In one way Thibs was the best coach BY FAR that the Knicks have had in terms of performance in 30 years since Pat Riley. All his teams have been consistently very good.

On the other hand this is a move that 100% had to happen. You can’t teach and old dog new tricks. How many times have the Knicks been up 20+ points with 3 minutes left and he still has starters playing? How many times has he refused to play and develop rookie talent? Forget about trusting bench players that never happened either. How many times do we have to see opponents flinging the ball left and right with great ball movement while we just watch stagnant offense and incessant dribbling? Thibs was a great coach for the Knicks who HAD TO GO! Thank you for your service Coach!

Yes the Knicks lost because they didn't play more of (checks notes) Cam Payne, Delon Wright, Precious Achiuwa and let's not forget Pacome Dadiet and Tyler Kolek.

Give me a break.

The front office spent 95% of its money on 6 players, including having McBride on a bargain contract. And you think playing more bench was the answer?

Ridiculous.

I don’t think it’s ridiculous considering the Knicks just sent the man packing! I’ve watched throughout the regular season(s). I’m not saying you haven’t but it’s the same story for 5 years with this guy. Ironic how he treated Obi Toppin and the young man played ridiculously well game 6 to eliminate the Knicks.

I’m thankful the Knicks had the foresight to see this man reached his ceiling and I don’t think it was all too difficult of a decision. He brought legitimacy snd stability to the franchise but it’s run its course here.

I'd be very surprised if Towns is on the Knicks next year.
I go back and forth on that. The Knicks were one of the last three teams playing so they were pretty good. Seems to me you have to decide if you need to change the coach or the players.
If you change both looks a lot like panicking and not staying the course which is contrary to the way both Pacers and OKC have made things work.

except maybe Dolan told him to fire his friend.

Kat needs to be included in any big trade like Durant or Giannis

My point was more do they really need to make a big trade. Trading for the 37!year old Durant would be the height of lunacy imho and back to the bad old days of trading big assets for players on the cusp of retirement.
