Knicks

I asked this earlier in the year, but is Randle having the the single best season of any player in Knicks history?

Great question. Growing up as a kid while I watched the Knicks I was a laker fan so I can’t say I invested as much time in the Knicks. Bernard King had some great years but I don’t know I kinda thiink Randles season better. I’m curious what some of the longer time Knicks fans think

I didn’t see the game but Knicks huge road win over the Mave. Randle 44 points. I gotta be honest while I don’t watch a lot of other nba games outside of the Knicks I’m not saying he’s the MVP but when you think about where the Knicks would be without Randall the idea of him at least being on the outside of the bubble isn’t that far fetched IMO. Coach really the MVP but without Randle even though I like some of the other players does anyone think we’d have 15 wins without Randle ?

In 1989-1990 season Ewing was named first team All NBA averaging 29 ppg, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. Randle's having a super year, but doubt he makes first team all NBA.
The great Knick teams of my youth were built around superior team play and balance so difficult to compare anyone from those great teams to Randle on whom Knicks relay so heavily when it comes to individual stats, but Willis Reed was league MVP in 1969-1970 season averaging 22 ppg and 14 rebounds.
Apologies, I replied to wrong post. Was responding to question whether Randle's season was as good a year as any Knick player has ever had.

Totally forgot the Patrick year yeah I’d say that’s a better year. The Willis years before my time so nice analysis about the team ball aspect

Burks out due to Covid protocol. Hopefully it was just an inconclusive rather than a positive test. They definitely could use him in key upcoming homestand as he's been great off the bench.

Great post.

Patrick, Willis, Bernard King, Allan Houston, Carmelo stuffed the stat sheets mostly with scoring and rebounding.

The fact that Julius is leading the team in the three major categories: 24 ppg, 11 rpg, 6 apg can only be stacked up with one other player:

Walt Frazier who averaged near 19-20 ppg, 6-8 apg, 6-7 rpg for EIGHT+ SEASONS!!

My favorite part of the game last night was when Randle needed to rest in the beginning of the fourth quarter.

RJ Barrett took it upon himself to carry the load while Randle sat. Scored 9 points early in the fourth, extended the lead.

RJ played 46 minutes last night! Thibs trusts this 20 year old kid to do everything for this team. He was outstanding on defense, often getting switched onto Luka. The only time I recall Luka scoring on him, Luka had to go deep into his bag to get it. Other than that RJ was all over him.

the kid is special

As you are a young Knick fan I hope that Barrett turns into a franchise player that you can root for, for the next fifteen years or so. My son is 17 and that is what I am hoping for him.

I have a signed Frazier hat that was given to me as a gift. Its my favorite Knicks possession.

Knicks in thrilling overtime comeback win against Pelicans, their 6th in a row. Randle played his usual great game, but super performances also from Nerlens Noel, Reggie Bullock (3 that sent game into OT and second dagger 3 in OT before fouling out) and Derrick Rose who made tons of big plays down the stretch. What a big pickup Rose was for this team. Thibs still trusts him in crunch time and for good reason.

Unfortunately Nets just blew game to the Heat allowing Heat to stay hot on Knicks heels.

We don't get to see the Knicks play very often in South Florida
I am pleasantly surprised at how good they looked this afternoon
Randle has really come into his own. RJ has improved a great deal as well
Shows how much of a difference good coaching makes, even at the NBA level
Thibs is an excellent coach and tactician. Also holds his players to high expectations

Today I found out that both of RJs parents went to St John’s. I knew his dad played for us obviously, didn’t know he met RJs mom there though.

damn too bad they didn’t force him to go to their alma mater haha

If the Knicks beat the Hawks tomorrow night it’ll be their 8th straight win and also get them to the 4 seed in the eastern conference

7 games ago the Knicks were on a two game losing streak and down double digits late to Memphis. In this very thread and I declared that the team had run out of gas and was going to have a rough final month of the season. They came back and beat the Grizzlies and have not lost since.

So with all that being said I want to formally declare that St John’s will be bad next season ;)

It has been such an enjoyable season. Barrett may never be a #1 star but he is undoubtably a piece you can win with on the wing.

Here’s to hoping they don’t revert back to Knicks ways and rush to make an unfortunate move.

Still need upgrades at PG and SG, but great to have two cornerstone players - one in his prime (Randle) and another (Barrett) who hasn’t even reached it yet.

Rj is only 20. He can still become the best player on a championship team. His shooting has improved tremendously. I think he will be a special player.

Let’s pump the brakes a little bit ;)

Is it good that he's taking more 3's on a team that is dead last in tempo? /media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

Couldn't agree more. Knicks have two major pieces for quite a while with Randle (26) and Barrett (20) and are in very good shape at center with Noel (26) and Robinson (22) plus a great sparkplug off the bench in Quickley (21). They have two first round draft picks which will both likely be somewhere between 15-20. Stay the course and if they do their homework can likely fill at least one of the two spots that need improvement in this year's draft. Rose can still provide some good minutes as backup point guard for the next year or two while a young guy gets used to the NBA. Just don't start mortgaging the future with stupid trades.
