Keeping Up With Old Friends Thread

Such sad news coming out of Georgetown. Lorry took over Georgetown hoops as their athletic trainer the same year, 1981, as me. We served on several Conference committees together through the years and served together with USA Basketball and the USOC. We both did the 1991 World University Games in England and 1992 Barcelona Olympics as members of the medical staff. We became close friends early on, never allowing all the bad blood between the Hoyas and Redmen to come between us. Even when she took ill and could no longer serve as their trainer, Lorry was always there on the court every year waiting for me whenever we played in DC. RIP Lorry 🙏🏻💔

The late Malik Sealy will be inducted into The Bronx Basketball Hall of Fame class of 2024. He played his HS basketball at Tolentine winning a CHSAA and State championship in 1988, becoming a McDonalds All-American. Malik attended St John’s University becoming their second all-time leading scorer. Malik played 8 years in the NBA before his tragic death. Malik will be honored November 7th at Villa Barone Manor at the Awards Dinner Ceremony. A Bronx Legend who left us too soon. Tickets are available on our website Thebronxbasketballhof.com

Well deserved honor for Malik but what took them so long to honor him?

DePaul, Xavier, Creighton, Marquette, Seton Hall and St. Johns all used to have football. UConn, Nova, Butler and Hoyas still sponsor it. PC only one never to have it. How about Seton Hall having football only 17 years after the end of the Civil War. And Xavier football is the answer to a college football trivia question! Who can name the question?

Who did Marshall “the Thundering Herd” beat at home for their first win after a 1970 plane crash that killed all 75 people aboard which included players, coaches, administrators, family, friends, and the plane crew?

If you haven’t seen it, I highly reco you watch the movie “We Are Marshall”.
