Kadary

I absolutely love this kid. He’s already one of my favorite Johnnies of all time.

He would have fit right in with the Artest Elite Eight team.

I don’t mind most of his turnovers at all. There are a few things I haven’t liked…e.g., the attempted bounce pass back door that ended up being a kicked ball late in the Baylor game. That kind of stuff drives me nuts from anyone.

I believe Kadary is the reason for Luis and Dunlap’s meteoric rise in 3pt %. I also think as the season goes on he will take more of the primary ball handling responsibility and counter intuitively his TOs will go down. It seems like his turnovers have been slight brain farts or not being on the same page and that will lessen as the team gels.

A line up of Kadary, Bootsy, Artest, Postell and Grant with Berkeley coming off the bench would have been nuts. The length on D for 1999 would have been unmatched (think of the lateral quickness!)

The jump shot outside of 15 feet is still very much a work in progress, he's gotta be better at the FT line, and Pitino has already commented on his conditioning, so there is room for improvement there.

But the kid makes a couple of "wow" passes every game. Not even the fancy stuff, like Smith's ridiculous behind the back to RJ for the slam. The even more impressive type, where he sees something that literally no one else on the floor does and puts the ball exactly where it needs to be. He had at least one last game I can recall (the bounce pass to setup big Vince for a dunk, which I think he wrapped around two guys). From my seats at the Garden, he had about 3 during the New Mexico game that we had a great vantage point to view, and all of us were like "damn, how the hell did he see that".

Since I don't think I can go many more games without saying some stuff about Kadary - who is beginning to threaten RJ Luis as most-polarizing Johnnie - here it is.

No, he isn't a good shooter from range. Point conceded.

Yes, he has had some uncharacteristic turnovers and missed FTs early in the season. Past performance says those won't be long-term issues.

No, he isn't fast and athletic like (for example) RJ Luis or Deivon Smith

Now that we have that out of the way: he is a tremendous floor presence - we haven't had a player who sees the floor the way he does since Ron Artest. He's a tremendous passer, which is paired with a willingness to use that ability. He has the ability to get the rim almost at will - although he uses it in the flow of the game or when he believes its necessary for the team to win, as opposed to (for example) RJ Luis who thinks the time to shoot is pretty much any time he has the ball. He's a guard who will probably finish the season in the top-2 on the team in rebounds per game. And he's a plus defender against 4 and if needed 5 positions on the floor.

Now I understand that many of those qualities are underappreciated or unappreciated by folks who think the game is about dunks and 3 pointers. But if you appreciate the game of basketball in a form other than NBA-style dunk-and-3, then you also appreciate Kadary. If you don't, then you don't.

Last note: there's no argument that his on-court demeanor is ... different. What that has to do with his game or his production or his desire to win, I have no idea. And tbh I far prefer it to the surliness of (say) Omar Cook or Zendon Hamilton. My personal preference is for players who play with the joy of a Marcus Hatten or a Simeon Wilcher, but I have no problem with Kadary whatsoever.

So that's my interpretation of the Kadary Rorschach Test.
Terrific post

I’d pay a lot of money to see Kadary in the same locker room of Artest after some of those passes.

Just 2 years ago, Miami, San Diego State and Florida Atlantic all made the final 4. Maybe Kadary can help us match those 3 delusional programs. Maybe not likely, but one can only dream.
If we had the last 15 years San Diego State has had we’d be in heaven. Our program is a joke.

Last year Khadary was playing for his next contract. He needs to find something to motivate him this season.

Sorry, I meant 6 minutes remaining in second half when benched
Im almost positive Paultz that he was benched at the 16 minute mark in the second and never got back in. Loose with the one handed grab and pitino really stuck to his guns for whatever reason.

KD can't shoot, can't dribble, can't make a lay up, can't hit a free throw, plays with no energy and is too slow for this team. Forget lateral movement, he has hardly any movement at all. Why is he playing so much? What is Pitino's infatuation with him?
