Ok. Bottom line. In one month's time, you will have seen a bunch of games from Khadary where he has grabbed the reigns and is performing as expected as an elite guard.
Time to stop crapping on the bad performances and for us to get behind this kid. His performance last year was no fluke and he will rise again, very soon.
Has he always had that hitch? First year observer. Please, please, please put some arc in your free throws.
Would be interested to see if Pitino uses him more in a "booty ball" style a la Jalen Brunson and what Illinois did last year with Marcus Domask and what Wyoming did with Hunter Maldonado a few years ago. Basically have him back down his defender and run the offense around that.
He has the size and athleticism to bully smaller defenders and score through them or force help. If they put a bigger guy on him to counteract his back downs thats when he can face up and drive by them. He's certainly a good enough passer to be able to pass out of these too.
The only downside would be that this system works best when there are shooters on the floor around him which we don't have but I still think it could work with the personnel we have with a few wrinkles.
The couple times this year Kadary backed down his defender on the block he ended up getting good looks for himself. Wouldn't mind seeing this get implemented slowly going forward

That is exactly how Seton Hall won so many close games last year. The booty ball is how I saw his season going with us after the first few games. He gets into that position really well. The advantages of operating an offense from the high post are just massive. He can take anyone 1 on 1. He needs to recognize the double and pass out. When he passes, he usually does so exceptionally well. He has made some lazy passes, though, and those have to stop.
I don't care if he turns the ball over driving. I do care if he turns the ball over with careless passes or dribbling. I still think he is going to be almost impossible for teams to handle in the last few minutes of each half. He draws so much contact and he stresses defenses.
Yes but as I commented in the Harvard thread (don't want to re-post here), that would require a different approach to the game than the one Pitino prefers. Which makes it a challenge to figure out how to maximize Kadary's strengths in the structure of an offense that may be a poor fit for him. One of the two has to change or you're wasting the player's abilities. That is exactly how Seton Hall won so many close games last year.
Good point, I get that. Perhaps , have it in the bag at end of games when close games are more half court and possession by possession ?Yes but as I commented in the Harvard thread (don't want to re-post here), that would require a different approach to the game than the one Pitino prefers. You take something quickly with Smith or Luis (or let Richmond drive one on one), and then run it through Richmond or weave/high screen if it’s not there.Yes but as I commented in the Harvard thread (don't want to re-post here), that would require a different approach to the game than the one Pitino prefers. And, precariously dribbling through rush hour traffic.I believe many of his turnovers are because of one handed passes. Use TWO hands.
Need me one of those St Johns media "practice" videos shot this week.... see the kids smiling... everyone still in uniform lol...Someone else mentioned this already, but I'd prefer to see him off the ball. Smith has so many more PG qualities. We win the Georgia game with him on the floor if Pitino had listened to his assistants.
Pitino mentioned a few times over the summer and early fall how they’ve been working to fix Kadary’s shooting form. Well, they broke it. That ugly hitch he has on his 3 point attempts has bled into his FT form. In so many of his FT missed this year the ball never even got above the rimI know stats don't tell the full story, but I find his comparison from last year to this year very interesting.
Last year:
15 ppg, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 3 turnovers. 44% FG on 13 attempts, 27% 3pt on 1.8 attempts, 80% FT on 4.6 attempts
This year:
9 ppg, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1.6 steals, 3 turnovers, 44% FG on 9 attempts, 33% 3pt on 1 attempt, 40% FT on 2 attempts
You've got to wonder what the hell is going on at the free throw line. I guess my glass half-full take is that I find it promising that other things are in line, yet there's very very clear room for growth. I agree with the takes that being a booty ball guy at the four will be really helpful.

And a team leading 33.6 mpg. Lots of things to second guess pitino on early in the year. Let's see if he continues to unimpress.I know stats don't tell the full story, but I find his comparison from last year to this year very interesting.

Can’t wait to put my “cringeometer” away when KR has ball at crunch time.I know stats don't tell the full story, but I find his comparison from last year to this year very interesting.

Watching HOU-ALA, their guards (Cryer and Sears) really stood out at the end of games. I don't see the potential of Smith in doing what they can do, and I'm not sure we have the spacing to provide that for Luis late. Kadary's the one guy we have who (maybe) can reliably get to the hole & get a decent look, or pass it for an even better one. Can’t wait to put my “cringeometer” away when KR has ball at crunch time.
He obviously is much better than his work to date. Nothing would please me more than wanting him to get the rock and make critical plays. Hopefully that evolves quickly.
His last two years at Hall were 3.7 and 4.6. He went to the line against Baylor 8 times. To me, I don't think it's a question of ability. It's just getting him in position to do it.I remember in the summer saying that free throw rate from one year to the next shouldn’t just be assumed, especially considering the drop we saw from our transfers last year.
Still, I’m sure Kadary’s free throw attempts will continue to go up, and with that his % will rise as well.
