June/July Recruiting

From my perception it seems that the new staff is quickly obtaining the reputation of being omnipresent and hard working. What a pleasant change.
IMHO can’t ask for more than that at this point in time.

The new staff seems to be present at all of the major events and making lots of offers
It's refreshing to see what a competent and knowledgeable staff looks like
Their hard work will pay certainly dividends in the short and long term
I'm really excited to see what the next couple of years will look like for SJU basketball

If the Post editors want some juice on the Cornhuskers I'm sure all will be good.

Anyone in the know with an update on The 13th Scholarship?

Have we been able to convince the Canadian kid's school to change to a pass/fail system?

Stop holding out on us Insiders!

The NCAA’s modified recruiting calendar allowed for high schools to join together and host team camps with college coaches allowed to attend to evaluate prospects. St. John’s was on the scene for events in several cities.

Most notable was the movements of Mike Anderson, who spent time checking in on kids from New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Delaware, Washington, D.C., among other regions. On Friday he attended the Philly Live event at Thomas Jefferson University in Philly, where teams from PA/VA/DE/MD all participated. He spent part of Saturday at DeMatha Catholic in Maryland, checking in on a handful of DC/Maryland/Virginia recruits and returned to NYC on Sunday to scout the CHSAA event at Archbishop Molloy.

CTK’s Arbitello tweeted I think yesterday about Mike Anderson and SJU staff being there every day. Say what you will about Arbitello being a blowhard or what not, but the perception of our staff is changing quickly locally for the better. If that is a small barometer, we are making a local splash. People questioned the fit of a southerner, but Lavin was a westerner and imo did a pretty damn decent job. This staff really getting after it. If they do this year in and year out I can see us reaping the rewards on the recruiting trail for sure. Extremely encouraging. I think Anderson’s straight forward personality will certainly reel some good kids in here. We are certainly casting a wide net and we need to.

Per Marley Paul

First July evaluation period starts Thursday.
Nike - Peach Jam/PIT (So. Carolina)
Adidas - Alabama
Atlanta - Under Armour + JUCO showcase

Per DeAnte Mitchell
“The PSA Cardinals just stormed back from a 19-point deficit to get within 10, 43-34. Hassan Diarra is having a huge game on both ends but Richie Springs really stealing the show. Very quick second jump, great offensive rebounder and getting it done on the defensive end.”

Staff apparently is very interested in Springs. (Of course HD as well). Curbelo, Diarra and Posh Alexander seem to be point guards of interest. As noted before, Curbelo seems beyond SJU. One of the three would be nice imo.

I’d take any. Love how Diarra really gets at it at both ends. Really fits Anderson’s defensive plans. Just waiting to see what we can put together. Hoping we can land one of the big few PG’s.

Hassan Diarra-24P 4R

Richard Springs-16P 10R 2B
