Would be happy if he ends up as one of our recruits 3 stars be damned.
The New Heights 17-under unit went to work and in a quick fashion on Friday morning thanks to the work of its super talented core that is Precious Achiuwa and Lester Quinones.

Achiuwa, a five-star forward in the 2019 class, is sensational whenever he is aggressive and unfortunately for his competition in Atlanta, he has been just that.

Whether it is knifing his way through the defense with the powerful score or leading the break off of the defensive rebound, it has been attack, attack, attack all three days in Georgia. Pound for pound, there are not many as talented as Achiuwa in the 2019 class as St. Johns’ Chris Mullin and Georgetown’s Pat Ewing, along with an assistant from Pitt and Kansas were on hand.

Alongside him is one of the more underrated wings in America, Lester Quinones. Too put it lightly, I just don’t get why practically all of the nation isn’t prioritizing him. He is a 6-foot-5 wing that can defend and make shots at a more than solid clip, a combo that is valued greatly in today’s game. Mullin, Ewing and Seton Hall’s Kevin Willard were on hand for Quinones, as was WVU and Maryland, as the Terps offered him last night.

While this is a results business and we need to ultimately "close" on some of these kids, there sure seems to be more recruiting buzz for our club during this live period than at any other time during the Mullin area. And Chris, Matt, Greg and Luca seem to be all over the place and working really hard - a nice change of pace from everything getting dumped on Matt's shoulders (at least based on appearance). This is a very good look from the staff this week, here's hoping they keep it up and I think some very good things may happen.

More it is a product of time. Recruiting is a “years” thing, about building relationships over time with coaches, advisors, parents and players (in no particular order.) IMO, Matt has showed just how great he is at instantaneous roster building, and there is no one better. Now we’ll see if the work he and others did “behind the scenes” with more conventional recruiting, if you will, starts to show results. Here’s hoping, but if not, on to the “Plan B’s”.
But having 4 guys on the road instead of one or two doesn't hurt, right?
Right, and we are in the mix with all these top echelon players because we WEREN’T out there for the last couple of years. Funny how that worked out. Surprised such a lucky staff just didn’t buy lottery tickets. We WERE out there and the proof is in the list of players we are still in the running for; that is meaningful to me. You just don’t show up at the 11th hour and get on the lists we are on. Go back and look at the first time Paultzman mentioned our interest in these players, much more enlightening about the time and effort expended recruiting than anything else.

Per Zach
St Johns Matt Abdelmassih and Luca Virgilio here for Chris Ledlum of @NYJayhawks among others #sjubb. He plays at 8:30.

Chris Ledlum seems to be blowing up. The kid picked a great time to strut his stuff. Hope we can get him.
