Julian Champagnie

My memory of Brownlee is facing up as Amaseyourface describes but not all the way out on the wing, not a deep corner threat.

I think he can run the floor, defend, has a pretty good handle and mid range jumper for his size, and plays under control. He is one of these kids that can quietly fill a box score and his value can go beyond stats.
Don’t disagree but I see more Brownlee. For much of the same reasons you just mentioned but I see brownlee and Julian as both more inside-out where DJ was outside-in.
I may be mistaken, but didn't Brownlee play more of the role of a center with decent offensive skills? I thought of him as a big, and don't see Julian that way at all.
He started as our pseudo 5 but played next to Burrell and Evans quite a bit. I disagree with fuchsia, he was definitely a face up forward. Champaigne, though absolutely not a center, has played some there as well.
To me at least, Brownlee had a bigger body and operated from 15 feet and in, with a nice touch from the outside. He was a face the basket player as you say, but I felt he was much more of an inside force as a rebounder and defender, though the stats may dispute that. In any case, thank goodness for Brownlee that Roberts (who strongly favored Evans) got fired else we'd hardly remember him

Julian is improving a lot as the season ends. Creighton and Butler are his best two games this season.

It's a darn shame the rest of the team fell apart in the 2nd half against Butler. I hate seeing one players impressive performance get over shadowed by a bad loss. Especially when it's a young Freshman that's still building confidence in his skills.

Let's hope Julian plays as well against Marquette and against Georgetown in the BE tournament.

I expect his shooting, defense and lateral quickness to continue to improve via rigorous training & skill development program this summer. Again, rehabbing an injury precluded that last summer. Great instincts, nose for the ball & rebounding skill will really help SJU going forward. He has a very solid base to build on.
And it was only like two years ago where people who really know basketball didn't think he could play at a high major. He's really come a long way and it's exciting to see how far he'll go.
I have to admit that when I saw Champagnie against Christ The King last year at Fordham, I was not impressed. He just did not seem like a Big East Player.

I am pleasantly surprised at how well he has adjusted to college ball. I also think that Coach Anderson and his staff deserve credit for his development.

The fact that not only you but most weren’t feeling Champs as a Big East level kid is also great scouting. The development of all the young kids has been tremendous for sure. Can only wait and see what staff does with kids like Posh and Wusu.

A kid like Posh isn’t a very good defender now, but he has all the tools and explosiveness to be an elite defender. CMA will get the most out of these kids coming in and our core is real good. Still need more pieces but we are on the right track.
Maybe, but not sure Julian is done growing and for sure will get stronger.
I think he's a legit 6 8, but earlier this season Donny Marshall took a shot at his height during one of the road games. During the telecast, he said he compared his height to Julian's height and claimed that Julian was not close to 6 8. I have a feeling that Marshall was looking at one of our other players and thought it was Champagnie.

A few of us ran into Julian after the ASU game as he was grabbing food in the casino mall. He looked at least 6 7 - I was really surprised by that comment by Marshall.

I remember in one of the early pics of him on campus before the season that he definitely looked like he was a legit 6'7" and didn't look like a string bean either. That was the first time I think I warmed up to the idea of him, because I thought he could help man the four spot, and points would come easier for him there. Never dreamt he'd be this good.

His height doors to matter much at all with his game. He’s double-doubling against good big. East teams and is probably somewhere in the 6’6”-6’7” range. The kid is a gamer though, for sure. Throwback kid and a local brooklyn kid too.

Champ is gonna make a lot of money playing basketball. Remember this. His development has happened rapidly.. but it’s real. So smooth. Let’s the game come to him. Pro.

Per @DalyDoseOfHoops

Mike Anderson on Julian Champagnie: “We’re very proud of him. I’ve just seen a development, a progression of him turning into a Big East player. He’s been so impactful to our team as a freshman.” #sjubb

I can honestly say the development I've seen during the course from kids this year is more than I can remember seeing in any year over the past two decades. Alot of times kids showed up and didn't improve, or showed up and even regressed. Or curious cases like Dom Pointer who disappointed for 3 years and showed up his senior year as a beast. But it's fun to see this staff develop talent before our eyes.
