Julian Champagnie

I can see Champ averaging a double double before his career is over. I like his coolness. it fits his game. Not flashy, but can do a number of things well. Had some big time blocks this year, rebounds well in traffic, and should become a better shooter also. The type of guy every program would like to have.

I have no inside info, but based on hints I've read some drop on here about Figgy, I don't see any way he returns next season. He's already the age of a college senior, and probably has to be realistic about his NBA chances and current earning opportunity overseas. So yea, I see him likely going overseas to start making money.
 
LJ may want to finish his degree. There will be more talent on the team and that could allow LJ to fill a more comfortable role. The team would certainly be better if LJ plays.

But, only LJ knows what he wants next in life. He'll make the decision in the next couple of months.

Good, atleast we won't see anymore a 30ft shot and a miss from him next year.

But for many they play college bb for the opportunity to get paid money professionally. Many players come from economically poor environments and really need the money. Furthermore there is no reason a player can’t complete a degree while they are playing overseas during the offseason,, or after their pro career.

St. John's Julian Champagnie now averaging 9.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals and shooting 44 percent from field. Should make Big East all-rookie team I would think. #sjubb

I completely agree with you Richard. The only question I would have, and I admit I have no idea the answer, is has Figgy's body of work been good enough to get him a contract over seas?

Remember when Dave from JJ said Champagnie was more suited to play at a mid major and was a huge reach by CMA? Good times.

Champagnie has impressed offensively and on the boards, but his defensive game needs lots of improvement. His defensive awareness is poor, he is slow to react and often gets beat by backdoor cuts.

Ive actually been extremely impressed with his defensive instincts and in particular his ability to make plays without fouling, but you’re absolutely right he was the victim to at least 2 backdoor cuts last game.

There are many levels of basketball overseas. Most high major D1 players are able to continue playing basketball overseas if they wish. LJ would have no issue in that regard.

The announcers were raving (and rightfully so) about his blocked shot yesterday on a play where he hustled back but seemingly had no chance of making. He’s learning and I agree with you that he’s been better defensively than he gets credit for. Has room for improvement, but is not a liability defensively.
 
I know there are rumors of mass defections this offseason, but if we can retain Julian, Marcellus, Greg Williams, and Dunn to go with Posh, Cole, Wusu, Moore (with some transfers and other late recruits sprinkled in) that's a team I can go to war with next year.

The rumors where all bs. Sure there will be movement, but not from the players deciding.
 
I see Julian as sort of a DJ Kennedy type. I think he can run the floor, defend, has a pretty good handle and mid range jumper for his size, and plays under control. He is one of these kids that can quietly fill a box score and his value can go beyond stats.

Don’t disagree but I see more Brownlee. For much of the same reasons you just mentioned but I see brownlee and Julian as both more inside-out where DJ was outside-in.
 
These are the players that all of the good schools get. These are the players that Xavier and Villanova produce with each class. You notice them as Freshman and sophs and go wow when they are Jrs & seniors. He is not the 5 star player with all of the headlines. He is a hard worker and I imagine that he will get better every year and will be a very good player in his Jr & Sr seasons.
