Josh Roberts Injury

Agree, Roberts is a keeper. He will only get better and has some real tools.

Anybody know what surgery he is having on his shoulder? Either way, year 3 progression will be affected greatly.

Wishing a speedy recovery to Josh!

This has zero to do with Earlington but rather a great kid by all accounts who suffered a season ending injury that requires invasive surgery. Earlington would get his minutes with or without Roberts playing. Going forward we need a healthy Roberts to board and block shots. SMH.

I really feel for Josh. Always plays hard and stuck with St. John's when there was a coaching change. Hoping that he will only need shoulder arthroscopy with a fast recovery. He will still have to rehabilitate for many months and be fully recovered before being able to compete. Given that scenario he and his family, together with the coaches, have options that include returning to practice as early as this summer, requesting a medical redshirt year or, depending on recruiting targets, request a transfer. I wish him the best regardless of his decision since he's a coachable young man who was very gracious at the walk for the cure and seems to be a good teammate.
This makes me root for these players even more as they have been dealt a bad hand with serious injuries to McGriff, Heron and now Roberts. I think the remaining guys are energized rather than dejected as they showed against Marquette by playing their hearts out for their injured brothers.

I'm still in wait and see mode, but I'm hopeful.

Josh improved a lot this season. It's a shame that he's missing the post season games.

I saw him briefly on camera at the beginning of the Marquette game. He was moving his arm and feeling his shoulder. I thought it was encouraging it wasn't in a sling. Hopefully he can rehab it before summer training.

Too bad for the young man, but better to rehab it early. He made tremendous strides this year, and with a more rounded cast of players, he should excel even further. Glad to hear he intends to return.

I'm glad to here he is coming back. He posted something about "sweet home, Alabama" around mid season and I thought it was a hint he was thinking of leaving. He's a good kid, but I don't agree about his season. HE got out of the gates strong against subpar competition, Once the competition ratcheted up, he became a non factor, and CMA appropriately reduced his minutes as not ready for prime time. The consensus is that he needs to get stronger to compete better down low, and I think that will be the off season goal for him in addition to his rehab, which might set him back in that regard.

I don't disagree, but as a 3 star sophomore, he made tremendous strides (particularly after being basically ignored a year), but I don't believe he is not ready for prime time. Just maybe he needed a little more help up front. In any event, I see him getting better next year (and hopefully as you pointed out stronger). With a stronger cast, I believe he will continue to be better and a good 4 year player here.

This is what I am hearing. He has to get surgery and be out until September or so. Bad setback for a good kid who needed this offseason.

I actually think the only thing he showed against lesser competition is that he could score a little too, and looked improved in that regard. Mullin gave him spot minutes and he performed well and earned more minutes, but against better competition quickly showed he was not a force and found a place on the bench. With Steere ineligible, CMA gave him major minutes in the OOC schedule and he performed extremely well. As soon as conference play began and as the season progressed, he lost minutes to Earlington, Sears, and anyone else who is minutes were distributed to. I'm hopeful that he could be a guy who could average 8-10 points and 7-10 rebounds while providing interior defense and blocked shots, but he isn't there yet.
