Isaiah Briscoe, PG

Seton Hall is recruiting very hard. Their name is mentioned with every local recruit.

It is vey important that we remain better than Seton Hall. It is not helpful if they have a guy who can both recruit and coach.

Willard isn't a good game coach, and please stop taking backhanded shots at Lavin with every post...

Telling other people how to post is hysterical.

Not when the poster in question either directly or indirectly insults Lavin with every single post.

Don't worry, you'll get over it.

Just because SL isn't going doesn't mean that SJU wont have any presence there. I hope that Hines is going.

Hines does most of the recruiting anyways and develops better relationships with the kids.

Is this true? I was under the impression that Hines didn't do much of anything.

So what exactly is it that Lavin does well?

Makes you mad. :furious:

Hines or Chiles?

The criticism has been that the staff took this recruiting class off, 2014, not that they took a year off.
Right or wrong, it's been clear all along they were focusing on the 2015 class.

And, as we know, that criticism is also pure nonsense. It's like revisionist history with some folks on this Board at times. The real truth is that they were hot after a number of top 100 recruits for 2014, but lost out on them in the Fall. At that point, they gave up on 2014.

I don't agree with the staff that they should have given up at that point, but let's at least get our facts straight on what you're accusing them of.

At the end of the day I do not believe Briscoe will sign with us but I know for a fact that we are very heavily, seriously in the mix - Otis expert analysis notwithstanding.

@AdamZagoria: @_IsaiahBriscoe is actually considering 7 schools, his dad says: UConn, Arizona, Villanova, Louisville, St. John's, SHU & Rutgers. (Thought he was already down to seven?)

@AdamZagoria: @_IsaiahBriscoe will also visit Arizona & Louisville this summer and cut his list to 3 by end of the summer. Decide by fall. Story soon

IMO, it'll be Arizona, Louisville, and either St. John's or UConn when he gets his list down to 3.

Not according to Otis or his alter ego, Mr. 247.com/

Right you are "fordham"; as a StJohns fan I am pleased with the news I have received over the past month that indicates that StJohns is the current favorite for Messrs. Briscoe and Sanders.

Nobody ever doubted you but of course my bona fides will never satisfy some...

Who is Sanders?

Nakye Sanders. Out of Staten Island.

Never heard we lead for Sanders. As a New Heights kid, would Mo Hicks be helpful or not?

Otis' sources. The one that recited a few months ago all the reasons (lack of visits to SJU lack of mention on 247 and ESPN recruiting site not listing SJU under Briscoe) that SJU did not appear to be as seriously involved with Briscoe as others.

But because I have "fordham" in my handle that somehow means something to everyone else.

There's a lot of unanswered questions until then. Will Lavin be extended?

Maybe.

Will Jordan develop in yr 2?

Possibly. Personally, I think so.

Will Whitehead and SHU turn into a viable force?

Meh. I guess there is always that possibility. IMO, I doubt it.

Can RU be a contender in the Big 10?

StJohns is the leader for Briscoe.

Briscoe alone is not the answer for StJohns.

As the it's roster stands today St.Johns will have at most 7 scholarship players returning for the 2015/16 season meaning that there are 6 available scholarships during this 2015 recruiting cycle (7 or more available if Jordan or anyone else does not return). Over the past 15+/- months Lavin has received just one commitment from a high school prep player.

It is now well into the 2015 recruiting cycle and approximately one-third of the top 100 players in the 2015 class have already committed to other schools. Let's hope Lavin has, in addition to Briscoe, several other favorable commitment announcements in the next 3 months so StJohns does not have to play with a reduced roster as it will this season.

"Leading" for a recruit is just absolutely meaningless. Anyone who thinks Briscoe is a lock for SJU is just fooling themselves. That does not mean SJU is not seriously in the hunt and Lavin and staff have not done all they could in recruiting this cycle, I believe they have, but the competition is steep and ruthless. Lavin has obviously gone "all in" on this class so let's see what happens;IMO, if he strikes out we start over and Lavin goes directly to the SJU coaches graveyard with every other coach since Louie.

Even if we land a talented 2015 class, we will need someone who knows how to coach basketball. We have already seen what happens when the #3 recruiting class in the country plays free-for-all street ball.

If we can't get rid of Lavin, I would love to see a change in the assistant coach department.

Let's keep this thread about briscoe. No need to rehash the Lavin can't coach argument here.
