If the staff was so pissed that he wouldn't reenter the Providence game, why did he start the Robert Morris game?
Why run him off the team (supposedly) weeks later?
That's a good question. At this point, there has been (to my knowledge) no confirmation that he actually refused to go in. I know that if I were his coach and he refused to go in, he would never see the floor for me again. Maybe Lavin and the athletic department felt that they owed it to the NIT to play their best lineup. Obviously, it didn't help. I still find it hard to believe that a kid like Greene would base his future with the team on the actions of a malcontent like Obekpa.
Chris was given second, third and fourth chances to get with the program and he never responded on a consistent basis. The early season suspension was just the tip of the iceberg. He was a problem all season I am told and his play for the first two thirds of the season reflected it if you all recall. As for Phil Greene, I could care less if he transfers. Other than on fast breaks and the occasional three pointer, he was given 15 minutes a game more than he deserved. As dysfunctional as this team was they miraculously won 20 games with all the me-first players. The headstrong Jakarr is the biggest disappointment in that he has almost zero chance of being drafted and he has no hardships at home. Of all the players leaving early in the college ranks he may be the one that just needed another year but patience and maturity are not his virtues unfortunately. At 6'8, with a poor handle, no outside shot, poor rebounder and attitude issues, Chris Obekpa will have it hard wherever he lands. I just hope the fund raising website he publicised is not just another Nigerian Internet scheme so I am glad he will not be around if it ever is exposed to be a con. LOL!
Oddly, every player that has left is replaceable. The only one not replaceable is Rasheed Jordan.
