Something's obviously brewing on the stove on Union and Utopia. I just hope whatever it is, it doesn't set this program even further back. We just can't take anymore hits.

If Lavin either resigns or gets fired, I really don't see that setting us back at all. If things don't work out this Lavin, I see this as more of a reflection of Lavin and not the program. Besides. if he's done nothing else, Lavin has shown that highly ranked kids from all over the country will come to St. Johns. Now we need a coach that can recruit and coach.
 
I was thinking more in terms of some sort of violation/scandal type of a thing.

Fingers crossed that isn't the case.

I had said I was told _____ was uncoachable and was a big problem on this team this year chalk up another no brainer when it comes to filling what is now a sixth scholarship. On a positive note, if there are no more defections we will be solid at the guard positions and filling in the roster with a few 6'8 kids with balls to rebound will likely make up for the prima donnas that have left who had their own game plan every game. That includes Obekpa, Sampson and Sanchez. I hear big news this coming week.

Here's hoping..I still see us having the same challenges against the zone (outside shooting) and still believe we need a more consistent commitment to defense and rebounding...Lavin needs to apply the same approach to on court issues as he does to off court issues...No defense...No ball sharing...No PT
 
Well said. Although he was an asset on D, his demeanor and mere reactions after plays clearly changed for the worse this year. Makes you wonder if there was someone in his ear, someone under the table before the season started or during the season, and I wonder if that person pounced on him after Jakar declared.
 
AT this point in time the realization of what BRUINATION told us 5 years ago has become our reality.. We pooh pooed their commentary about Lavin as sour grapes but, who amongst us today can say they were wrong? They told us he can't COACH. They told us he will spin a line of BS that would make the used car dealers on NORTHERN blvd, seem like amateurs.
Again, and sadly so, for St JOHN'S basketball, we are on the perch of another disaster.. By all appearances, he has abandoned his duties and the school. His hand picked players are jumping ship with more rumored.Hopefully not..

A few insiders here know what is happening now but, aren't telling the whole story.. Respect their confidentiality.. I'm sure more will come out in the next week or so.

Right now, we are seeing a lot of Smoke coming from the BB office.. Many have said the smoke is clouding what is about to be a full scale blaze.
 
I don't know why Obekpa came here in the first place, unless he was lied to. He is a big man that likes to block shots, he does not fit well in a 3 guard rotation. That hurt our rebounding. If Lavin wants to run then he needs horses..The loss of Sampson hurts more than the loss of Obekpa...I hope he transfers to a school that plays a 2 guard rotation.. I don't understand the Delarosa project either, he is slow, and would slow us down..

We have never been accused of being logical in our selection of style of play or putting pieces together consistent with such.

I've always thought that if I was coaching the team and Hooper was wide open for a 3 and Greene didn't pass him the ball, I would have yanked Greene. You need to play team bb and find the open man and take higher %shots. That would have helped our shooting. Not rocket science. Regarding Adonis ,how can you pass on him. We have 5 scholis and no front court.There are times when you absolutely need a big body out there to defend. He's a 4 year player who could be very good by his jr. Year. The problem is we we were counting on him being a backup for CO. The question isn't why Lavin recruited Adonis, but is if he knew Co was unhappy and Sampson wanted to go pro,coupled w the. Loss of GG and Sanchez ,why wasn't he more active in recruiting and gotton us a better big. The fact that we have 0 recruits so far is perplexing. I guess it could be argued he tried and whiffed. Of course if Lavin isn't able to recruit anymore you could make a good argument to show him the door, because we all know his in game coaching is less than stellar.

so we sign the brothers and a 6-8 JUCO that can rebound. OK thats satisfies me for now but we need Diallo and Briscoe now more than ever.

i've always thought that if I was coaching the team and Greene and Hooper were on the floor at the same time, I'd kill myself.

Why run him off the team (supposedly) weeks later?

He has always come across as sleazy to me, and that was before Diplomagate. I can handle sleazy quite well, especially in my women, but you've got to have more of a track record than Masiello(IE Calhoun sleazy) before I'd be happy with the hiring of someone with his sleaze factor.
