Iggy Watch

Looking St his decision objectively, Igiehon had offers from Stanford, Wake Forest, and St Johns. Yet, he chose Grand Canyon!!!

What I get from this decision is that after two years at Louisville, him and his people realized that he would not be a high major impact player and only at the mid major level would he possibly be able to flourish.

Conspiracy theories be damned.

Needs to be said again. He’s not a center. Most here had him pegged as a center. He’s not. He wants to be stretch 4 or a 3 and hasn’t been shy saying that. These are facts. Irrelevant about him coming here or not.

I'm disappointed but---more---I don't get it. Drew killed it at Valpo, got mugged at Vanderbilt and won big his first year at GCU.  Iggy trusts this guy to develop him and make him ready for the NBA...at GCU...in the W.A.C.?
Okay i guess.
Best of luck to him.

NBA???  That would be one of the biggest turnarounds ever, to go from not even making the rotation on a non-tournament team in sophomore year of college to an NBA prospect.  I think it's almost safe to say Iggy's NBA dream is simply a dream right now.  Focusing on making a rotation of a D1 team should be his only goal right now.

Oh I agree MP. The kid was a top 50 recruit and pursued by the high and mighty 2 years ago. He's bomber so far. Just thought he still aimed for the heights...GCU and the WAC an odd place to pursue any dreams / fantasies.
I wonder who pursued him this time? It may say it all if just St. John's and GCU were his primary pursuers this time around.
I thought CMA might be able to develop him. So, I find it very odd he opted for Drew.

I told Maher two weeks ago that I was hoping we'd pass on him.  That was based on his injury history, what his coach stated (Chris Mack said about him somewhat loafing), his output at Louisville, what panther stated previously, and about him wanting to be a stretch 4.

I added those things up and was hoping we'd pass.  He may very well prove me wrong, but I'm good with him not joining the Johnnies.

BillTheTruth observed a few days ago on the SJU Targets thread (I think) that Drew may not be entirely on the up and up at Grand Canyon.

Given the schools that Igheion passed up to go to GC, it sure seems as though there's some merit to that idea.

It's either that or the SJU85 comment that the kid ultimately decided that transferring down was his best option.

We need a real 5 man (or our collection of power forwards to play bigger down low than last year, which certainly seems likely between Nyiwe, Wheeler, Stanley and Traore versus Roberts, Moore, Toro and Earlington), but I don't think there's a reason to jump off a bridge over this one going elsewhere.
Agree we need a real five and imagine what we can do if we have Julian at the three, one of our collection of fours at the four, and Posh, Stef, and a real five.  CMA with that kind of roster (including Wusu and another wing shooter) can play 40 minutes of exhaustion and do a lot of damage.  One of the fours becomes the backup five, one backs up Julian, and with Pinzon in the mix the other team finds no respite, ever.

Fuscia, I don’t think that is far off.  Add another good piece or two and we are right there.  The sky isn’t falling IMO.

This school is totally allergic to Big men it seems. I totally agree with LJSA here. What annoys me is the posters that have to be optimistic about every little thing here. I can always predict the exact same people and how they spin things each and every time. If we ended up getting Aidan we would here from these posters "CMA develops so well and I am excited to see what he can do with him!" or the other obvious "His numbers weren't great at Louisville but maybe he was in the dog house with the coach for some reason, change of scenery will definitely help him." Oh he didn't do anything for a non tournament team sure, but he just transferred to a team that made it to the tournament last year and we didn't. We need size, period. He wouldn't have been a savior but I'm sure he could be more reproductive than Josh Roberts who just left. Would have been a low risk High reward get.

I still think there is a good chance CMA brings in better talent than Aidan but we need more than one big and I would have definitely been ok if they brought him in as the second big. Just gets annoying that people try to spin things all the time. Its ok to be annoyed! CMA isn't going to renounce your fandom if you say something negative about him!

Didn't you just spin too?

No, I criticize when I think program deserves to be criticized and praise when they deserve praise. I try to be honest and a realist. Some on here refuse to ever say a bad word about CMA and the program. I also saw Aidan play in high school and he dominated, against mostly smaller and inferior talent, but I still thought he would be a decent big in college. Thought he would develop more than he has thus far but so be it. I don't think its a big loss not getting him but they really need 2 legit bigs. There are definitely better options out there so we shall see what CMA does. I will be skeptical of betting bigs until proven otherwise.

I think in the old days as a one year sit out, Aidan would have had more of a chance to make an impact. Coming here for next season would have been tough to make an impact.

I can’t believe people are upset that we couldn’t get a guy who barely got off the bench not even this year for a non NCAA team who only had three guys including him over 6’8” one of whom only played 3 games due to illness and injury.

As to why Grand Canyon, maybe he realized in his two years at Louisville in the ACC, he could not compete in the better conferences.
One man's trash is another man's treasure, especially if he's built like a block of granite and we've complained about a lack of bigs for the better part of 30 years.

You never know how a kid will respond to a new environment, and on a team with five openings I'm willing to give it a look. Were you happy with Justin Simon? Because he didn't do shit at Arizona.

Did Justin Simon's previous coach say "He wasn't ready for college basketball." after he transferred?  After I read that I lost all interest in Aiden,  For a coach to publicly say that about a kid says a lot.  And you just said yourself he's built like a block of granite, he's probably the biggest guy on the court on every single opponent his team played against, and he still couldn't make the rotation, on a non-tournament team... think about.

Me personally not knowing much about him but reading what Louisville fans were saying, it seemed like an Ian Steere situation, big guy dominated high school level because he was bigger than everybody, but just didn't have the skill and work ethic to make it at the college level.  And the thing about adding a guy like that to the team, coach is pressured to play them because of their high school accomplishments and every time they lose they gotta listen to reporters and fans ask "Why didn't he play, we got out rebounded." then when the coach finally puts him in fans just trash on him.  It's more of a headache than it's worth.  He can find a 1 PPG project player player that doesn't come with all that.
