First we lost our whole roster now we’re losing top targets to Grand Canyon..... yikes wd
LOL, did the staff really want him or did the fans want him?  There was reports they contacted and was talking to him, but has there been any evidence they really wanted him and recruited him hard?  I'm sure they have higher priorities than him.  He averaged 1 PPG.  I never saw the excitement people had for him, I thought even if he landed that would be a project.  His own coach at Louisville has said he wasn't ready for college basketball.
They tried apparently, on to the next one. Not an alibi, but recall Panther’s caution on Aidan.
What did Panther say?

Did not like his game and saw more of an athlete than basketball player. You can look it up for more detail

Not sure whether he would have contributed, but troubling that the kid feels he would develop more at Grand Canyon.  He’s a NY kid!  This coupled with transfers gives me concern .  As one poster put it, seems unlikely that we will be able to make sufficient upgrades to compensate for the loss of continuity and senior leadership.  Guess we’ll see.

Wasn’t  Aiden supposed to be tight with either Posh or Julian?  Not great
Isn't he Irish? and there are like Irish people in NYC.  Not Great

I wanted him a lot because he's jacked and I thought if the staff could unlock something he could provide an inside defensive presence. But Panther much more likely to be right than I am.

Igiehon played in the state's B (formerly C) classification. Not much size at that level, so guys like him will grab a lot of rebounds. I'm not sure how many big men from the state's two bottom classifications have made it at Power 5+1 programs. Coming out of D Class Foyle was widely recruited, but he posted his huge numbers at Colgate.

I'm bummed, but if Tre Mitchell came here I'd be saying "Iggy who?" And there are other names who will make me say that too, so hopefully staff has a plan.

Yeah, that’s a  terrific analogy.  Addition by subtraction.

I always found out funny that Aidan igheorn family during his original recruitment said he wants a college degree that was going to help after basketball and many St John’s fans thought our NYC alumni and connections were the key until Stanford came calling. He has now rejected Stanford twice for both the University of Louisville & now Grand Canyon University.

In my Jay Z voice: Pardon me I had to laugh at that.

Because being close with two of the players on the team is equivalent to sharing the same background as a group of unknown peoples in a city of  9 million people.

I can’t believe people are upset that we couldn’t get a guy who barely got off the bench not even this year for a non NCAA team who only had three guys including him over 6’8” one of whom only played 3 games due to illness and injury.

As to why Grand Canyon, maybe he realized in his two years at Louisville in the ACC, he could not compete in the better conferences.

One man's trash is another man's treasure, especially if he's built like a block of granite and we've complained about a lack of bigs for the better part of 30 years.

You never know how a kid will respond to a new environment, and on a team with five openings I'm willing to give it a look. Were you happy with Justin Simon? Because he didn't do shit at Arizona.

Yes I was very happy with Justin Simon who did more in one year at Arizona than Iggy did in two years at Ville including playing in more games.  You’d of been better off using Tariq Owens or Sedee Keita, one who turned out fine but both of them and Simon only played one year at their previous location.  There has been two years of nothing from Iggy.

Block of granite is nice, but what good is it in this case if it can’t play?   We need more than someone who looks like they can pass the test, with the current loses, we need guys who can actually pass the test.  Potential is not a luxury we can afford right now.

This school is totally allergic to Big men it seems. I totally agree with LJSA here. What annoys me is the posters that have to be optimistic about every little thing here. I can always predict the exact same people and how they spin things each and every time. If we ended up getting Aidan we would here from these posters "CMA develops so well and I am excited to see what he can do with him!" or the other obvious "His numbers weren't great at Louisville but maybe he was in the dog house with the coach for some reason, change of scenery will definitely help him." Oh he didn't do anything for a non tournament team sure, but he just transferred to a team that made it to the tournament last year and we didn't. We need size, period. He wouldn't have been a savior but I'm sure he could be more reproductive than Josh Roberts who just left. Would have been a low risk High reward get.

I still think there is a good chance CMA brings in better talent than Aidan but we need more than one big and I would have definitely been ok if they brought him in as the second big. Just gets annoying that people try to spin things all the time. Its ok to be annoyed! CMA isn't going to renounce your fandom if you say something negative about him!

This just feels like another situation where a kid went to a place that would guarantee him starting minutes. As we know CMA won't do that. At the same time, why do you think no other major conference team would do it, and the kid ended up at a mid major???

Sounds like Aiden made the right choice for his skill level. Good for him. Now, I don't mind taking a chance on a kid like Aiden if we had a solid low post player on board already, but right now we are going in to the season with a complete unknown in the middle. As has been mentioned countless times before, we need to get a proven low post player. Projects will always be available.

The main thing this has taught me is the WAC is a terrible conference. Didn’t it used to be a lot better? And what is Chicago St doing in the WAC?

Didn't you just spin too?

Unless there was another similar player who they expect will enter the portal soon (like cisse), this was a swing and a miss from the staff. Local kid who knew the school and wanted to come home ends up across country.

something went south here over the last week as both camps were heading towards a reunion so to speak.

BillTheTruth observed a few days ago on the SJU Targets thread (I think) that Drew may not be entirely on the up and up at Grand Canyon.

Given the schools that Igheion passed up to go to GC, it sure seems as though there's some merit to that idea.

It's either that or the SJU85 comment that the kid ultimately decided that transferring down was his best option.

We need a real 5 man (or our collection of power forwards to play bigger down low than last year, which certainly seems likely between Nyiwe, Wheeler, Stanley and Traore versus Roberts, Moore, Toro and Earlington), but I don't think there's a reason to jump off a bridge over this one going elsewhere.

Who said he wanted to come home?  If that was truly the intent, don’t you think he would have picked something closer to New York than Phoenix Arizona?
