Ian Steere Visiting SJU
“Steere and Caraher both attended Wesleyan Christian in 2016-17, and Steere transferred to Northwood Temple Academy after that season before NC State. Steere had previously played at the Carlisle School in Virginia. He is also the son of bodybuilder Noah Steere.

Ian Steere will need to finish his semester at NC State to remain eligible, and would try to transfer in December for the Spring semester; he would need to pay his own way for those months until another scholarship comes off the books (teams are limited to 13, and the Red Storm are at the limit).” Full piece;

Over under on the number of posts asking for his dad to be the strength coach?

So St Johns will host NC State transfer Ian Steere Saturday and Sunday and JUCO guard Cam Mack Sunday and Monday. #sjubb
Paultz do you sense we land Steere or still too early to tell?

Will he be able to play starting January 2019 if a scholarship opens upon he pays his own way? Thanx
Would think, as Moose noted, they try to get him ready to play at beginning of 19-20 season since he only played one game this year. Suspect he could enroll here in January & pay own way that semester. We’ll see, just conjecture get.
Can we get a waiver for Steere to play on Friday?

It seems to feel that way, happening so suddenly.

All the teams want good players.
It looks like we are the only team with interest in him. Why?

If Ian did transfer and paid his own way until a scholarship opened, would he be able to work out with the team? could he participate in practices? or would he be hanging in the library for 9 months?

Just like a normal player

If he is real tight with Caraher there may have been discussions going on behind the scenes.

A batter question is why would a potentially very in-demand player be willing to pay his way (assuming that is the case).

As long as he is a full-time student.

Only way he could do it without sitting entirely next year. I wonder if he can petition that he really didn’t play this year somehow to earn back some eligibility? I’m not great on all those rules.

would think he needs to make decision quickly to maximize chances of playing full year next season. This might limit the amount of visits he can make.

The Caraher connection has to help.

But he has to finish out the semester at NC State so doesn’t feel like he really needs to rush a decision. He must have had an idea of where he wanted to go before announcing his intentions.
I have a feeling that we are going to need a big desperately.

Who wants to start up a GoFundMe page for this kid? LOL
Since he is visiting I posted a link (below) to a highlight video of him so people who are interested could see what we are looking at.

Looks good to me. He has some skills for a big man. If he comes on board and St. John's can get him for January, we may finally be able to make a run at the title.

Assume you meant January 2020., can’t play this coming January.

Size, strength, physicality, athleticism, multi-skilled, a 3 star that looks like he should have been rated much higher.
