I believe we need an elite coach...

Who is everyone's top choice

Everyone needs to prepare for CMA to be retained. I don't think he should be, but expecting so will make this off-season a lot easier to swallow.

Should he be let go.... everyone should be prepared for a disappointing hire.... will make the pain more bearable.
After this season, how can SJU explain keeping MA after losing the team, they suck.
If SJU kept MA, what would that tell the SJU fan base.
Just do the right thing in April SJU, you know MA lost his team, and expect lots to go in the portal, we'll lose recruits.

Want to be like G-Town and lose 20+ straight in the B.E.? If not then you know what you gotta do.

I think CMA is a proud Man. Proud of his Coaching Legacy , other than here and knows he’s on the edge . Sure , he could come back next year if the School doesn’t negotiate a buyout but, prospects for next season aren’t looking good right now . Plus , as some here have speculated his losing the locker room, would be compounded by losing posters here and the fan base at large . He’s done that already to a extent . If you think about it , his being hired here fell into Cragg’s lap through Jeff Capel . He had just lost the Arkansas job and was a free agent . So , in reality CMA wasn’t on any list of Candidates for SJU. Sure we hired him based on circumstances more than anything but , he had been let go by Missouri and Arkansas . Mostly because he didn’t get the Programs to the level those Schools expected of him . I’m sure he doesn’t want to think about having a G’Town like season here if he stays on that 1 more season . Which would be very possible .

Ultimately, the decision will come down to money. It always does, especially for a program on a budget. How much does it cost to let him go, and what will the school get for the money they are willing to spend. I suspect Pitino will never happen. Usual reasons of money and the excuse of his past. So it's a fired high major coach or a mid major building a reputation who is motivated, as everyone, by the money he will make. There is also what leverage CMA has if the school loses Storr, the Juco and Gardner if he leaves. A few tweaks and this team can be good next season. Maybe that's what the admin decides is best for the program, and certainly the least expensive choice.

If Pitino is a no, then I would consider Frank martin or Jamie dixon but I believe he just signed an extension with TCU.

I want somebody young and hungry. Not sure who that is right now. Maybe even consider guys like Jared Grasso who has done a good job and can really recruit or a relative fledgling Speedy Claxton who is doing a good job so far. These guys are local, still young and have their futures ahead of them.

I’d be very much in favor of Grasso at this point for these reasons. 1) he’s only 42 and still young. His best coaching days are ahead of him. 2) he’s cut his chops at plenty of levels in coaching and has had good mentors. 3) He’s local. It’s not a requirement but he knows NYC and SJU inside and out. 4) he’s an aggressive and good recruiter. The best head coaches have to have recruiting prowess, not just leave it to assistants. 5) he’s know for running offensive system that’s high scoring and exciting. He’s a Cluess guy and we will finally see shooters and scorers at sju. 6) As a coach his teams are improving. His career losses are really heavily concentrated in his first 3 seasons as a HC, with a 20-loss year at Fordham and turning around a poor Bryant program.

I’m tired of lots of the Re-tread types mentioned. Pitino’s best days are behind him. Give me a young up and comer that can recruit and gets us playing some real offense and wants to be here.

Is Spike Lee a Johnnie fan or Hoya ?

On point 2 he’s never coached at the high major level even as an assistant. He’s never had to compete with power conference schools for players.

His Bryant team this year is underachieving a bit. They have far more talent than anybody in that conference (to his credit to be fair) aside from maybe Vermont but are 4-4 with a few questionable losses.

I personally don’t think he has anywhere near the X’s and O’s chops to compete with the heavyweights in this league. Would like to see him succeed at the A10 level at least before considering him for a job on the Big East.

Could be wrong but I think Grasso would be in over his head at the Big East level at this point in his career

Grasso runs a very loose ship I know and disdains defense from games I have watched
