I believe we need an elite coach...

Who is everyone's top choice

It is funny to read preclusions about candidates like SJU is a destination program where coaches thrive. Yes, the salary is good & a BE job, but 22 years of NCAA futility, a coaches burial ground behind Taffner, high cost of living and taxes in NY area and sub par facilities & arena does not exactly put SJU in driver’s seat.

Net of a splash hire like Pitino, premised on his alleged desire to remain in Westchester, there will be a narrow band of choices imo. I don’t think Rick coming here will materialize either, so any of the prospects with interest will come with risks of varying degree. SJU has no choice but to roll the dice on guys whose strengths markedly outweigh their weaknesses. Individuals excelling at lower D1 level programs as a HC and those from upper levels with solid HC records, but perhaps stumbled in last gig (like Mack), all seem worthy of Shanley’s consideration Imo.
Beating a dead horse I know, but would be dereliction of duty not to go the Pitino route if he is indeed interested.

If the school’s finances are indeed flimsy then it may be tough to pay Anderson’s buyout plus the buyout to take a coach from another school. There’s word that Pitino’s buyout at Iona is $0. I have no idea if that’s true or not but if so that adds even more appeal to him. Wonder if the buyout factor would cause the admin to take more of a look at guys like Mack than Langel, Boynton etc

See link below. SJU can afford it. Whether those that signed off on the CMA extension will reverse course is a different matter.

One thing not included is the proceeds from the sale of the Staten Island Campus which is Prime Staten Island real estate with some nice buildings which are reflected at cost on the F/S

Really don't want a guy who did even worse in the SEC than Mike A did
It's amazing that Grant's time at Alabama is not considered favorably, despite with 3 NIT and one NCAA appearances in 6 years, a .579 overall winning percentage, and .529 in the tough SEC.

Are NIT appearances supposed to move me?

Dude hasn’t been in the tournament in a decade (this isn’t fair because the Obi season got discontinued but let me get my shit off. Getting one college super star player doesn’t mean he should get this job)

After we win out we will ALREADY HAVE an elite coach!

LETS GO REDDDDDDMMMMMMEEEEEENNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds insane... But WHAT IF we go all out zero losses big East tourney champion. Then and only then would I be ok w Anderson staying. Butttt if we win just one or two more games it would be a miracle . Petino Hurley he'll coach k for a year or two helping an old friend out . I'll take the coach from a local high school at this point

I'll only be ok with cma coming back if we make the Tournament. then win atleast a game.
That would have to count for something since that hasn't happened since Barkleys last year.
OK is different then happy to bring him back.

Have no clue what direction this goes after the last two years of disappointment, after a really promising year 2. Shanley is a hoops guy and Cragg and him can’t be happy with this season. Up to them to figure out the best course. As a fan, I’m not going anywhere, will support Storm Marketing and hopefully the NIL remains solid. You get the right coach and the NIL solid and you can start turning the corner immediately. Until then I’m going to keep supporting these kids each week because I still love Posh, Soriano, Dylan, Storr etc.
