Huge “What If”

Posh’s team is tied for 5th place. We’re 9th.
And St. John's beat them easily early in the season. If we are clamoring for 26% 3 point shooter that no team guards from beyond the arc, then things here are worse than we thought. They are 5th, we are 9th, and they are 1 game ahead of us. This team isn't 6 and 8 because they are missing a guy like Posh. Not buying it for a second.

I watched about 4 or 5 Butler games. Posh is not the player he was as a frosh. We have enough non shooters on this team. Would not have made a difference.
This take truly blows my mind. How many times do we have to see an opposing guard destroy us before we can acknowledge that Posh would have been useful defensively? We have non-shooters on this team who go down the other end of the floor and get blown by time and time again. I'll take the nonshooter whos at least a junkyard dog on other end of the floor. (oh and hes a better passer than every single guard on this team)

Other recent what-if's:
1) Tiny Morton not taking the deal to join SHU & Whitehead/Carrington going to St. John's.
2) Briscoe going to St. John's instead of Kentucky -- I think it was rumored he was coming here until the very last second. It was him or Kyle Anderson going to UCLA but its fuzzy at this point.

Biggest what-if to me this century is St. John's hiring Hurley instead of Mullin.

People are quick to forget. Posh could not shoot. He still can't shoot.

Posh would have made our shooters better. He only shoots himself to keep defenses honest for spacing. He’s not a good shooter. Peyton Siva shot the same % from deep when he won Pitino a national championship.

He’s well beyond just useful he’s the 2023-24 defensive co-player of the year with Kalkbrenner.

Not only is he the best on-ball defender around and leading the conference in steals by a mile, but HE was the mismatch when Luis was guarded by him in the paint for 3 possessions. He absolutely owned Luis which is insane. They switched everything and Posh guarded all 5 positions seamlessly.

He can’t shoot to save his life but neither could could Peyton Siva who has identical stats to Posh.

Anti-Posh heads just telling on themselves - revealing they only value one side of the ball.

You'd think watching this roster hit the cha cha slide every game trying to stop quick guards would be a cautionary tale about just going into the portal and blindly trying to grab shooters. Oh well, as long as the staff learned the lesson and approaches this offseason different

Putting Marillac hyperbole aside, his point for long time has been having a true PG would have resulted in Jannis playing off the ball and still getting his points, while other players would also benefit by getting good looks in right spots. Not sure our “clang brigade“ would nail those shots, but I get what he has been saying in that respect.

There is no doubt having a true point guard would allow for many good things for the team, its that jenkins doesn't deserve what marillac dishes out to him.

At the end of the day, I blame Pitino and coaching staff more than Jenkins. They didn't have an adequate backup plan for WCJ not committing here -- which, considering his real life circumstances, should've been obviously planned for. Jenkins is playing out of position and out of role. He's being asked to carry the team based on necessity. Those three things aren't his fault. Pitino's never criticized his offensive play here, that's on the staff not correcting anything.

Dingle fell in their laps late in the process. He's been the biggest disappointment of a player we've had since I've followed the team in 2001. But perhaps we should not have been in this position to begin with. Hired in mid-March or not, this is on the staff.

I think Posh would have been OK if he stayed to run the point and defend guards. But, he is not the player he was as a freshman and I don't think would have been a big difference maker on this team with our without him.

Posh has tenacity in his game but , not last year and performed poorly . He also seemingly was disinterested in anything CMA said in the huddles . It was very apparent .
Plus, didn’t really endear himself to this Coaching Staff of Pitino’s . He enjoyed the tables at Atlantic City instead of sitting down with RP.

Most fans like to think Posh was better than he actually was . Except his freshman year where he excelled.

In the head to head earlier this year Vs Butler , Posh had a great 1st half but , sat the bench for most of the 2nd half in basically a Redmen rout . He delighted in woofing at our Bench , nearly all of whom never played with him .

All of us retain great affection for Posh’s career here . But , he left the ship voluntarily and is now a opponent .,

Let’s remember him for his contributions but , Posh isn’t and wasn’t the player many fans fantasize about .. He was good at times , horrid at others .
And , by Season’s end , most Posh comments weren’t laudatory .

“Dingle heard from a who’s-who of high-major schools following his decision to leave Penn after three seasons. That included Texas, Oregon, UCLA, Arkansas and many other powerhouse programs. He had Zoom calls with Oklahoma State and Florida State.” NY Post

It was not like SJU dove deep down in portal and took huge risk. It just did not work out. Was it the role Rick employed him in or he just never got comfortable here.? I envisioned he would be a “leader” here, but that never happened either.
