Quick question for y'all. What's the best spot in Greenport/Mattituck for an 8-10 casual dinner that will have high quality food value, lean towards seafood, and provide a fun atmosphere preferably with a water view? I'm out there for a wedding the weekend after labor day.
A few years ago I’d have said Claudio’s but heard they are under new ownership and it’s not the same but I still love the view. A buddy of mine bought a house in Mattitick I’ll shoot him a text for ideas

My buddy said Billy’s by the bay is super casual he likes it a lot they have live music

Also he recommended this place https://windamerenofo.com/

And this place https://www.waypointrestaurant.com/

ALure, but make reservations early if you want to eat on the deck or have an inside table with a water view.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

I was thinking about Claudio's so your feedback is good to know. Also forgot to mention that it must have a raw bar so windamere is out. Billy's by the bay might be a go if we decide to go super casual.

That said I checked out A Lure and the menu and deck look great. Also good to break up the drive from the hotel in Greenport to the Friday night pre-wedding/after dinner party at Macari Vineyards. I'm holding a deck table there for now as well as Claudio's (different res systems allow me to book both) and will make up my mind before I head out.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Never been there but that last one (Waypoint) looks like my kind of seafood restaurant!

Pretty sure Claudio's changed the decor as well as the menu, so no real input on what to expect.

20 years ago I would have told you to take two ferries and eat in Sag Harbor but it's just too much of a douchey scene there now.

I can however tell you to check out Greenport Creamery if you are an ice cream guy.

Although I’ve never been, it gets great reviews and I know everything is pretty fresh but First and South is owned by an old friend of mine. She is actually my high school coach’s daughter. She was always a pretty cool girl so I’m sure the restaurant is great and it’s right in town.

I used to love the Greek place (Hellenic I think it was called) but I know that’s outside of the town proper. I had an ex-girl of mine who used to work in Claudio’s so I was there a bunch like 25 years ago. It was great back then. We used to go to some dive bar across the street when she would get off and get quite messy there, lol. Edit: holy crap, Whisky Wind…still there.

Don't have time for that anyway LJSA. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Looked at some of the recent Claudio's reviews and I've cancelled that reservation.

Love the scene on the deck at A Lure so we're gonna try that. Thanks Section 9.

Haven’t been there either but that’s not far from my office in Garden City so I’m gonna give that a try soon
New England-style seafood shack-y kinda place, fried clams, Ipswich, great fried shrimp, giant and breaded perfectly so somehow not very greasy. Been there since my parents who were born in the 1920's went there on dates in the 1940's.

Due to covid and "outdoor dining", they expanded to add an enclosed patio, but we only sit at the "original" counter in a horseshoe, holds maybe 14 people, where the place ekes authenticity, except you're at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Long Beach Blvd. so not exactly a "sea" side shack or a "water view".

I think they've had lobster rolls, but I am not a lobster person, so that I've can't comment on. I think the clams, and clam chowders and fried shrimp are their specialities. Cold Harpoon IPAs go great with the food.

Pre-Covid they carried another Massachusetts IPA called Ipswich, but that they don't carry anymore}

14 people sounds like 114. I like it !

Some streaming shows I recently took a fly on:

"Royale Palm" Apple - a wacky, absurdist take on Palm Beach social life in 1969 with Kristen Wiig, Ricky Martin and the great Carrol Burnett. It's a fun, zany, escapist type of series.

"Hightown" Netflix - Cop/drug drama on Cape Cod that tries to push the envelope with sex and violence. It's a mediocre show trying to cover up its mediocrity by being edgy. Most of the characters were thoroughly unlikeable. Couldn't get past a few episodes.

"Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes" Netflix - Probably overkill for those who lived through it or watched true crime shows about it. But this was a good comprehensive overview of the murder spree. The best parts were the very candid interviews with the cops who led the investigation, and how it took so long before they realized there was a connection between the shootings.

After so many crappy new shows, we've gone back to binge an older series - "The Crown" - for the first time.

I avoided it for years because I just thought I'd have little to no interest in the comings-and-goings of Buckingham Palace. But so far it feels like a very well-made tour through the second half of 20th-century history.

And there's more stiff upper lips among the characters than there were among our fan base during the Norm years. Cheerio!
