Homeland And All Things Maher

Punk Irish hip hop, then thoughts one of my favorite bands, who I probably saw 50 times in the Paddy Reilly Music Bar on Second Ave back in the day: Black 47, and later Chris O'Byrne's Shenachi Unity Squad? Hung with hip hop Chris back at Rocky Sullivan's when it was on Lexington.

Jimi's cover of All Along The Watchtower is superb.

I hate Rush too and many of those bands with high-voiced singers, Yes too, and the rest of them, but I might be in the minority on that.

How about the Thirteenth Floor Elevators for hard core early-on? Another punkish rock band out of England The Pretty Things. [then again I think I'm a lot older than you}
I know Black 47 but am more of a Dropkick Murphy’s/Flogging Molly guy. Saw the Dropkicks with Madball at Mulcahy’s in ‘07, what a fun show. I never heard of The Pretty Things. I’ll have to check them out. More of a Clash/Specials/Madness guy when it comes to the English. I don’t know how many of you are into this stuff, but I’m definitely an early 90s, into the 2000s NY/New England hardcore guy.

I see Frank Turner is fronting a Pistol's tour with Jones/Matlock/Cook. Not exactly hard core but might be worth checking out.

Clash - Only band that mattered throughout college. Clash survivors should try the same with Lars Fredricksen doing the Strummer parts. Early Libertines always reminded me of Clash as well.

Specials - If it weren't for the Clash they'd have been the #1 in our apartment. Glad I got to see them a couple times the past decade or so before Terry Hall died.

Clash all time great.

Recent favorite episodes (to me)

I Live Here Now - The Leftovers
don’t-delete-me - Mr. Robot
Dave - Dave
The Old Sugarman Place - Bojack Horseman
Loud, Fast and Keep Going - Barry
The Drugs Don’t Work - Shrinking
Send It - Reservation Dogs
Socks are Important - Mr. Inbetween

I only did one episode per show and not shows I saw awhile ago. Watch any of these shows and you can’t go wrong.

And…since I’m bored. Top 3 of the Breaking Bad universe

1) One Minute
2) Salud
3) Ozymandias

1) Five-O
2) Bad Choice Road
3) Saul Gone

I mean…2 perfect shows. So many episodes that I could have listed. Aaron Paul’s monologue at the AA meeting in Problem Dog is probably some the best acting ever. Face Off is probably one of the greatest episodes of TV ever. I could have went with Chicanery or Plan and Execution for Better Call Saul. I hate Walter White so much and the fact he got the best of Gus Fring or Mike Ehramtraut kills me. Just…so much great TV out there.

Don’t get me started on The Wire or This is England 😂😉

Oh god how’d I forget this. I can’t edit the other post but Defiant Jazz - Severance definitely gets a spot on that list.

One of the saddest arcs on that show was Dukie basically becoming the new Bubbles. The kids as a whole killed me. The last scene of Randy in the home and Gilliam in the car afterwards destroyed me.
Saw a video not long ago from the creators who said that Cheese was actually Randy's father in the show and that they had cut scenes to have more of an arc there.

It’s entirely different than any reco I’ve given. On YouTube there is this guy who does like 1 hour segment documentaries on middle America etc. if you don’t like docs it might not be your thing but it’s relaxing fascinating to me . His name is Peter Santenello I think to search on YouTube

I’ve watched a few of his videos. He goes to some mighty depressing and depressed places in the U.S., Appalachia, inner cities, rust belt, etc.

My favorite is one on the working class of the Hamptons - the plumbers, carpenters, store clerks who keep the place running for the wealthy.

The Appalachia’s episodes are what got me started the other day. My mom’s family is from the farmland of Maryland towns less than 1k so I found it kinda interesting. I’m addictive to the shows now. Just watched one in Cali in Humboldt County. He finds really interesting stories angles

The thing I love about Better Call Saul is that it’s as much about Mike and Gus as it is about Saul.

They took the three best supporting characters of BB and fleshed them out, gave them back stories, showed their motivation without Walter and Jessie dominating the narrative.

I re-watched Five-O not long ago and I’m man enough to admit, when he says “I broke my boy” I legit started tearing up even though I’ve seen that episode a few times now. To me, its probably the greatest standalone episode in the BB/BCS universe. I think Mike Ehrmantraut is the greatest character in the history of TV. No joke.

Gus Fring…he’s as classy and gentleman as a murderous drug kingpin can get. The backstory with his “partner” and his backstory with Hector Salamanca is as sad as can get. Every time you see Don Eladio’s pool…But for him to get the revenge on all of them in Salud and for Jesse to prove himself in the same episode and…for Walter White to just change all that like 3 episodes later, kills me.

And, I’ve said it before. Bob Odenkirk played Saul, Jimmy, and Gene Takovic on BCS and for him to not win shit for that is insane. And, the Kim Wexler scene on the bus in Waterworks, a character that didn’t break for 6 friggin seasons and see all that pent up crap come out on that bus. Heartbreaking.

I can say so much about those two shows. Gilligan-Gould-Smith wrote and directed two perfect shows. I can rewatch almost any episode from either show. It honestly doesn’t get any better.

The last two seasons of Better Call Saul are my favorite. I love seasons 3 and 4 of BB but man, seasons 5 and 6 of BCS are perfection. The way Nacho goes out. Lalo just a diabolic character with that smile. So pragmatic. As Scorcese would say PEAK CINEMA.

I mean, wow

And the fact that Nacho and Lalo - two incredible characters - came from a throwaway line in BB when Saul think he’s gonna be killed by Walt and Jessie…. pure genius.

Nacho is fantastic, that last phone call with his papa is heartbreaking but, damn, Lalo Salamanca. What a presence. One of the best villains of all time. Calm, collected, and bat-shit crazy. And, that smile.

Also since I'm thinking of YouTube and for some reason I never thought to post it here. If you don't sleep like me and grew up with wresting in the 90's watch on YouTube 6 feet under with Mark Calaway ( The Undertaker )

His stories are great but some of his interviews are just freaking phenomanal and funny or just downright interesting

My personal favorite episodes aside from his regular episodes are the interviews with

Kane ( freaking brilliant what a well spoken dude and this episode had me smiling the entire time )

Mark Henry ( funny as hell episode )

Jake the Snake and DDP ( this was more about life lessons but man it was touching )

The Godfather ( he never was one of my favorites but this was a funny episode because him and the Undertaker are super close friends )

Wasn’t sure where to throw this. Seeing as Mike knows everyone id try here.

Anyone know where board legend Larry Wright is? Can’t find his profile on here if I search it. Did he really get sent to the land of no return?
